Someone cut out an entire 8' section of fence at Bennington last night and drove thier truck in, backed up to a trailer and stole 2 brand new in the box Yamaha engines, a 50 and a 90.

They actually cut the lock on our neighbors gate and came in through the backside of our lot so you can tell it was something that was planned for some time.

I imagine it would take quite a bit of time to cut an 8' section of chain link, remove the top bar and cut 3 rows of barbed wire, then again when you don't need to sleep it probably wasn't hard.

Yes we ship engines loose with the boats and the drivers show up at all hours to pick up trailers so the loads, normally 12-13 trailers, need to be ready to go, not sure how we will do it now but that is well above my pay grade.

What on earth would you do with them, the serial numbers are marked now so whoever won't be able to warranty them and you would be out of your mind to buy a new in the box engine from a guy, then again that is thinking logically which is well above your average meth head.

So if you are lower Michigan or northern Indiana and someone offers to sell you a new Yammy don't buy it and let me know.

Plenty of people out there would buy "from a guy" if the price was right. I don't think stolen merchandise typically sells for anywhere around suggested retail. The same folk won't care if they got a warranty or not. Yamaha motors probably to a long time before needing service, at which time they'd be out of warranty anyway.

Now this just isn't right.... You are unfairly prejudiced against honest drug users everywhere.... If we can't pick on xxx xxx's then we can't pick on people who mow their grass at 4 am either.

BAWHAHAHAHA J/K

sorry to hear that you got hit.... I got robbed for $500 in batteries, a couple stainless props, an alum prop, and some straps/tools a few months back.... sure would like a few minutes alone with that guy.....

Well y'all better get used to it because motor etc thievery is at an all time high. One such theft put a boat dealer/canvas cushion customer of mine out of business. Bastards cut the fence & dun stoled half a dozen Yammi 4 strokes. 150s thru 250s btw.

Even got the perpetrators on 'surveillance' camera sawing the motors off. Yet no arrests have been made in the case.

To put it into perspective I recently bid a job in Nokomis for console/leaning post/motor cover. Met the customer at the door & we walked around back to his boat. Kept on a lift in a secluded canal.

I whipped out my tape measure & started doing my patterning thing when all of a sudden the guy hollers, "Hey! Where's my lower unit?!"

Some dirty rotten c/s'rs had lifted the 'leg' from his outboard & made haste. Presumably the night before. He looked accusingly at me for a second, til I told him I'd kill him where he stood if he ever looked at me that way again ...

Anyway. It's gettin bad folks, load up!

Yup. I hate criminals just like the rest of you, but. . . .

Have those people ever heard of insurance??

Stolen outboards are very hard to sell in states that TITLE them.

This doesn't sound like anything a meth head would be capable of doing. The knew where to break in , did it out of sight and sound... and you think this was done by drug addicts ????

Unfortunately, i have had to deal with someone who has struggled with meth addiction. Trust me, a meth addict is capable of being alot sneakier, stealthier, determined and driven to the cause then I had ever imagined. I wouldn't put ANYTHING criminal out of their capability, Sorry to say.............I think stolen merchandise goes for about 25-50 cents of the retail dollar value, if that , max, on the black market. Its an evil world.

It may be meth/crack/dope addicts... or it may be professional thieves that do nothing but steal for a living. They make a lot of money stealing and a little bit of prison time doesn't bother them a bit. They're the scum of the earth!

We have (construction) job site break-ins all the time and it's not unusual to come in on Monday morning and find that all of our generators and power tools have been stolen over the weekend. We have insurance, but it doesn't pay for the lost manhours we have to pay while the men are waiting for more tools to work with.

Marina up in Homosassa, just south of the Proline plant. They took thirty or so Yam lower units in one night. Quite a sight to see, every Yam boat in the lot missing their feet...it all goes to the Carribbean...

That would take a pro about 5 minutes with a torch. The ones that do this for a living a pretty good at it.

One more vote for I/O's, lol. It's gonna take a good bit of work to steal an I/O engine, and outdrive/prop locks are easy and cheap to install. Sorry your shop got robbed, but few people will care about the warranty if they can buy a new motor at half-cost.

Dont be too quick to blame the tweakers. There are professional rings that do exactly what you described.

Around here, they would steal a truck from uhaul, cut your fence, load up the truck and be gone before the police arrived. The ones that got caught down here in Tx were operating out of a huge old farm in Iowa. Every barn and shed was full of some kind of equipment.

I was lucky enough to get to go to court and help convict the bastids!

Bingo! Which is precisely why the dirty rotten thieves have little problem disposing of their ill gained loot. This is America after all. We don't care who profits or who gets hurt - just give us the best price.
