For the last 2-3 days the forum has been taking about 30 seconds to load. the rest of the internet pages seem to load normally. Has anyone else noticed this or is the server just busy. Is there a way to see howmany people ar on line at any given time.

I'd be happy with 30second waits.

I have been getting server errors, can't reach the server, or the server is overloaded messages for weeks.

I just now wanted to post a reply and it logged me off instead. So I logged back on and tried again to post and it said this "This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 13 seconds." when I tried to post. I then waited the 13 seconds it requested, and tried it again but it said I was trying to double post.

Strange things are taking place here lately.

Firefox is the way to go and if you look at the very bottom of the main forum page, you can see how many people and who, is online.

Re: Iboats forum running slow

I am really happy you don't have any problems, and have a very fast failure free connection to iboats. Also thank you for suggesting your favorite browser.

I am sure, I am the only person world wide to experience this, but I have repeatedly.

---

First. Browsers don't cause the problems (server side problems) that I have had with iboats lately.

Second. I have three different browsers installed, all up-to-date, all show the same problems. I run two operating systems, Vista (with service pack), and Mac. All show the same symptoms, iboats is increasingly slowing down lately.

Third. I have a 20MB dedicated DSL line I use alone, one computer at a time, no problem with speed from my end, or with any other websites. I test regularly, my landline speed is more than necessary for a static forum.

Forth. The problems I have experienced, are only with iboats, no other websites.

----

These are server side errors, I'll repeat, server side errors. My browsers can not generate iboat originating server error messages, it is not a local problem.

If I could reprogram, improve, update, or replace iboats servers from here, I would (cost covered, naturally), but I can't. It is a iboat hardware, or connection problem. :(

Your right there. It could be that I am occassionally connecting over a overloaded connection to iboats server. This could be the case with the "timeout" messages. I didn't ping the server (to see if, and where this would be, not that it would matter) though, because I don't like to do that to friends without first asking, sometimes it makes them nervous. :D

The server side messages are coming from the iboats server though. There is a nice iboats logo at the top of the page with the message. Sometimes I can reach the iboats store front ok, but not the forums, leading me to believe it is more a forum problem. I don't know if they are running on the same servers, or not. Other times nothing works.

I just wait and try back later, sooner or later I get through, and it will work fine for a day or two, before we go through it again.

I don't recall having this problem before, it seem to have started several months ago, but gotten worse lately.

Re: Iboats forum running slow

Thanks TD Been running FireFox 2.whatever. Just downloaded 3.0 today and no change. Like SnappingTurtle the problem seems to be isolated to iboats. I'm going to wait a few days and see if anything else on my end is causing a problem but I can't seem to find anything. Any way I just thought my Luck. Sorry for the earlier double post but I got bumped because of a time out and the post went anyway. Now the spell check has quti working.

I have not had to many problems with I-boats until they changed the banners a few weeks ago. they kinda-take control slowing things up. I dont have problems on any other site just this one. Have similar issues on my work puter also.

Well, I guess it is because I am in the sticks. But IE is slow here and Firefox isn't.
I don't never get error messages and am never timed out.
I am on high speed cable and have never had any problems, sorry.

Re: Iboats forum running slow

I have two gigabytes of ram, my computer is not the problem. My ram has nothing to do with server errors, this is a iboats problem.

Neither is the bandwidth of my line, as I said, 20MB DSL.

Neither is my location, I am not in the sticks, I am less than two miles from one of the main fiber optic network nodes for all of Germany.

Nor is the number of users on the iboats forum at one time (several hundred, what is the record 700?), I use servers that are designed to handle hundreds of thousands at a time with no problems.

I can watch films in “DVD” quality over the net, or run flash based websites & games with instant results an no delay.

iboats can't even serve a low-tech forum without stuttering along, it is their servers.

Whether iboats overloaded their servers with advertising banners & money making doodads, or not, is not something I care to discuss. Nor do I care, to continue to speculate why my computer is the root of iboats servers slow performance.

The only way I could influence this (server errors) is to hit them with a “denial of service” attack from tens of thousands of pc's. I am not a hacker, so this will not be happening from my side.

... never had any problem ...

... is starting to sound like BMW's official spokeswoman with my new BMW Mini Cooper (now sold, thank god).

The BMW customer service director said "you are the only one", "mine is perfect, no problems at all", and as "Americans you probably just weren't smart enough to use Hi-Tech German equipment". Yes, she really said it.

The engineer/mechanic from BMW that had to pick us up on the AutoBahn, 6 times in 3 months, said it was happening to all of them.

The master mechanic said, there are 17 Mini's in the Garage, all with the same electronic problem the last day I was there.

Hum, the only person to experience this, uh hu. Perhaps I am now just to dumb to use the American Hi-Tech iboats forum ...

... maybe I just forgot to plug my computer in, yes thats it! Hey! It Works!

I appreciate you guys trying to help me fix my computer, but it is doing just fine, and is not sick, or broken.

Re: Iboats forum running slow

I understand that SpinnerBait, and I do appreciate what you guys do, honest. I am not trying to be mean.

I have to deal with such situations all the time, clients screaming on the one side, company management screaming on the other, and the XYZ department coming up with one excuse after the other as to why everyone else should just take a pill and chill out, saying everything works fine. Then proceeding to take a long lunch, and then calling in & saying they ate something bad, are sick, and won't be back in the office for two weeks.

It was just last week I think, when people started to ask why there were underlined “Pop-Ups” all over the forum now.

Remember?

First it was said we had Viruses or Trojans, and should add XYZ software to delete them, add “Pop-Up-Blocker” programs from XYZ, and change to the XYZ browser because you can't see them if you have it.

Your stuck in the middle, and you try to help, I appreciate it! Really! But this is not your problem, it is the tech departments and the bean counters at iboats.

P.S. This is starting to sound like a boat manufacture saying they connected their computer diagnostic equipment to the outboards black box, and it said I was towing with a Ford, the boat is only designed to be towed with General Motors products, there by I am responsible for the for the defect with the bilge pump, and my entire warranty is now void.

One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Re: Iboats forum running slow

A couple of weeks ago with my old computer, things were slower than normal. Now with the new puter, it is a whole lot faster than before. BTW, I'm using Firefox with this one. Now I have a lot to learn from going from windows 98 to XP. Its a used one, the price was right, and it works great.......SS

I'm running 3 gig and 560gig hard drive with Norton 360. It just took 81 seconds from the time I hit the quote button till the last smiley face showed up. This is the only site that is having issues. It's kinda taking all the fun out of following (trying to follow) some of the threads

Re: Iboats forum running slow

all of this is fine. the mods do not control the system. as i said, above, this has been reported to the correct person at Admin. if it can be fixed it will be. he has been referred to this tread. now give the guy a chance. today is the first work day since the start of this thread. it may take a week to sort it out.
