Sheesh I have never once had that happen with my OUTBOARD.

Seriously though, bummer dude. At least major leaks are easier to identify than those pesky smaller ones.

I feel your pain. My first splash did not go well either. Got out to the middle of the lake placed it in neutral then forward and the shifter would to go back into drive. Came back on the kicker, loaded the boat when home to investigate and found the shift dealamahicky lost a cutter pin. Hope your issue turns out to be an easy repair.

I think you made a good decision not to run it though I am sure it was tough to turn around. That sounds like a fair amount of water coming in. I don't think I'd throw in the towel just yet though buddy. I am still seeing upper 30's all week this week in my neck of the woods. You could always toss a heater on it to if it gets any colder. You are close man! I am betting you could find/fix the problem one day and be out on the water the next, eh!

Papa, its been 5 months & 16 days (approx) since you brought the baby home. I know its been a lot of work but whats a little more time? You made the right choice, though a hard one. It will probably turn out to be something you could have fixed on the ramp in 15 minutes

Sorry to hear PAPA, Keyhole & Water tells me the Lower Shift cable Boot is Torn or missing, your right your wouldn't get that much through the shift cable alone.

Nope - but I did get her winterized last night.

I'm convinced the leak is from bad bellows in the gimbal housing. I never looked very closely at them and I know I at least have to replace the shift bellows, so I may as well tear the whole gimbal housing apart and replace everything while I'm in there. And I can still go back it into the water to see if it the leak is fixed afterward, I just can't start it unless I wanna do the winterizing all over again.

But for now, I got a little overdrawn on brownie points at home and need to spend time working on the house winterizing list.

Also gotta figure out what to do with the original motor I took outta this boat....

Yep! That's exactly the stuff I'm looking up today....

My hinge pins look different than ones one all the alphas and bravos I'm reading about here. Mine have threaded holes in the middle with a smaller hole off to one side. Is there some special tool for that style hinge pin?

I'm off to go RTFM now that I've asked the question....

Sorry Jas - previous job was eight years in over-the-phone tech support. It's what we always wished we could say to customers. I even have a coffee mug that says RTFM.

Paint is gonna have to happen at some point, but that's pretty far down my list. Wife wants yellow and blue. Those were my high school colors. I don't think so. Actually, I kinda like the idea of stripping it all bare and going naked. The boat I mean. Not me. Nobody wants to see that.

Yah, thanks man. I'd have to wash my eyes out with something a little stronger than soap in that case (paint thinner, muratic acid).

I really like the look of bare boats, real utility looking, ya know. Maybe painted white top (or a dark green) and bare aluminum hull - that would be pretty sweet!

Forecasted low for tonight is 23 degrees.






This is the first time I have ever winterized an I/O.






If I did it wrong, tonight is the night the block will crack.






Fingers crossed.






I bought two heavy-weight flannel shirts this afternoon at Fleet Farm.






One dark red and one grey.

On the colder nights so far this year I have heard the crackle of a camp fire just outside and noticed my winter weight sleeping bag MIA. Apparently my V6 has the ability to warm itself which is weird - you know, no opposable thumbs and all. Not sure in the I6 comes with that feature or not as I don't have the manual handy.
