Re: Installed Tower Over Weekend!

Fairly simple install, took my time, measured and measured again. I did it alone, and I would suggest assistance, although I kept everything covered to prevent scratches. I used my rear bimini post base for the rear stance mounts, since that area is supported well.

The tower was shipped quickly, well wrapped, good directions and with extra bolts, actually marked as so. I haven't used it yet, although I believe it will make getting up easier.

that's great! How did drilling those holes go? I can't believe you did that by yourself, that's impressive!

Re: Installed Tower Over Weekend!

Thanks guys! The holes were easy, although it did occur to me ... what if I screw the location up!? Fortunately on my Tahoe the best location for the tower was to place the rear mounts where the rear bimini post were and the front mounts just aft of the front side cleets. Both of these areas are very thick. iboats also sent the correct bit, so no guessing. There directions are very good, for instance -- I didn't know to drill counterclockwise into the gelcoat? Clockwise apparently chips ... for once, I'm glad I read directions:D

Who knows? The first time my wife tries to get me up, the tower may rip off the boat:eek:

My only hiccup is storage and with the front mount disconnects, I thought "great" no worries. Although the way the front bars swing to fold, I cannot get it in my garage. I have near 1" clearance on the sides of the boat tires for garage entrance. So, basically, I have to take a few extra minutes to remove the front bars, then fold the rear bar down to the back seat deck. For dry storage, guess its all worth it.

But for installation, it will depend on the boat, but mine was a piece of cake. You can download the instruction manual from iboats to check out the recommended spacing between bars/arms ... I believe it is anywhere between 53" to 65" so there is some flexibility in placement. I wanted mine as wide as possible, I'm at 64" between bar/arm mounts. I would recommend as a weekend project if you're looking for a tower.

pat8839 -- I can certainly take a few of the mounts, top and underneath for you, and other shots. Give me a couple days and I'll get for you.

Re: Installed Tower Over Weekend!

I have a 2008 Q5i and looking for a tower now. Will this tower allow the use of the factory bimini top?

Thanks,

James

James -- I'm really not sure ... we used our factory bimini so little, and I always felt it was in the way, so I didn't attempt to try fitting both. Plus, I liked the thick, built up area underneath the front bimini post mount, therefore I removed that bimini mount and used the location for the tower's rear post mount. I like the looks of the tower attached biminis and may fit one of those. Or, I may get crazy and look at tailoring my factory bimini with the tower. This coming weekend will be the first use of the tower, so I'll report back with feedback and additional pics.

Could you post more pics of the tower? I am currently waiting for my MTE to arrive. I will be installing it on a Q5 2009 as well.

Thanks!

Re: Installed Tower Over Weekend!

MB -- my apologies, I didn't get the updated pics on here obviously. By day's end I'll have pics uploaded. The boat is in the garage and I have the tower folded, we're heading out again tomorrow, so I'll get tomorrow as well.

The tower help up for its intro weekend very well! I didn't have any problems and the difference of having the tow hook higher is incredible. The only thing I made not of is I had my boardracks mounted too high up, kept catching the rope on swing around, easy adjustment.

Sorry for the delay, pics coming
