Re: Installed Tower Over Weekend!
Thanks guys! The holes were easy, although it did occur to me ... what if I screw the location up!? Fortunately on my Tahoe the best location for the tower was to place the rear mounts where the rear bimini post were and the front mounts just aft of the front side cleets. Both of these areas are very thick. iboats also sent the correct bit, so no guessing. There directions are very good, for instance -- I didn't know to drill counterclockwise into the gelcoat? Clockwise apparently chips ... for once, I'm glad I read directions
Who knows? The first time my wife tries to get me up, the tower may rip off the boat
My only hiccup is storage and with the front mount disconnects, I thought "great" no worries. Although the way the front bars swing to fold, I cannot get it in my garage. I have near 1" clearance on the sides of the boat tires for garage entrance. So, basically, I have to take a few extra minutes to remove the front bars, then fold the rear bar down to the back seat deck. For dry storage, guess its all worth it.
But for installation, it will depend on the boat, but mine was a piece of cake. You can download the instruction manual from iboats to check out the recommended spacing between bars/arms ... I believe it is anywhere between 53" to 65" so there is some flexibility in placement. I wanted mine as wide as possible, I'm at 64" between bar/arm mounts. I would recommend as a weekend project if you're looking for a tower.
