Installing Swim Playform w/ Thru Hull Exhaust

Hi guys,

I have a new to me 2007 Crownline 21SS. I just ordered a swim platform and intend to put it on myself. It looks like a real pain to get all the way back to the transom to secure the bolts. This is partially due to the layout of the boat and the fact that it has Captains Call Exhaust installed. My question is can you remove part of the exhaust and get it out of the way? There is larger rubber connection between the motor and hull tips that are secured with hose clamps. Can i just loosen those and remove them? I think if those are out of the way i will be able to slide far enough back with my feet in the air.

Sorry I don't have any pics but could get some next time I'm at the lake.

Any other pointers/advice on getting the bolts on?

Pics would help, but just some thoughts . . .

It may be a really bad idea to disconnect any pieces from your current exhaust permanently. . . In describing what you are considering, would that mean that you would only be using the 'thru-the-outdrive' path for the captain's call ?? and not the thru-hull path??

or is it just needed to install the swimplatform, then you would re-assemble everything?


If you need to permanently remove the thru-hulls . . ., you may be looking at the following possible avenues. . .

remove captains call exhaust and go to standard exhaust

modify swim platform to accommodate the thru-hull

If you are talking about removing them so you can access the area, then put it all back, sure.
Depending on how it's laid out, you may have to remove the exhaust elbow first.

That's how I read it....

Yes, you can remove the hoses for access to the transom but it'll probably be easier to remove the tips first, then the hoses.

Take pictures of whatever you're planning on removing; that way you can see what it's supposed to look like when you put it all back together.

Yea i just think i need them out of the way to get back there. Then i will put it all back together. Ill take a pic of it this weekend as y boat is a hour away. Is removing the tips possible with out messing up the graphics that run right next to it? I assume they would be glued on. I would think removing from the engine side would be easier?

Side exhaust . . . not thru the transom ???

Have at it as long as it can all go back together once the swim platform is installed

Well, depending on how your swim platform attaches, you may not need to access that area. Many of the platforms just use exterior braces and screws into the transom and are not thru-bolted. Make sure to use some 4200 or 5200 sealant for any holes you drill into the hull. It does appear that you can just remove the rubber exhaust hose temporarily if you need to though.

It might be for your side exhaust setup....hard to say without looking at it. Just make sure you reassemble everything correctly and you'll be okay.
