Re: Is it probable that my engine is blown?

Having an engine failure is one thing, having a second and then a third on the same boat means something not mentioned hasn't been addressed.
I couldn't imagine installing a new long block on a customers boat without replacing the raw water pump impeller and thermostat.
In salt water boats, the manifolds and risers would be replaced. Freshwater only boats would have them seriously examined and pressure checked. If the original engine died from water intrusion of any kind they would be replaced.
The intake manifold could also be bad.

Then, to put in 2 different long blocks and still have the same old gas and keep using it.
Personally, I think your getting a new engine from Jasper the first time was luck, because you have a mechanic that isn't paying attention to detail, and/or we aren't getting the whole story, or what all has been checked.

Mechanic number 1 charged me for a new impeller also. He first told me that the impeller was the problem. When I came to pick the boat up, he had it chained and said that I owed him another 3500 because it was not the impeller, it was the manifold and it was cracked from freeze damage. Of course, I showed him that it had been winterized by the dock that I am located at and he said they must have not done it right. I was stuck and paid him. Took it out about 4 times, blew up. Went back to him, out of business, moved out of state. Took it to another marina here in Hendersonville and they contacted Jasper, Jasper said send them the engine, said it was my fault because I over heated it. Not the case on my end. Went to BBB. No luck. Went legal, they folded. Sent me another engine. Had it installed. Took it out 4 times for about 2 miles at best total. Engine blew. Spent this weekend trying to salvage what I have. Giuy tells me today at 7 pm that I had no chance of saving this engine. That is the whole story. You guys are great and I really appreciate all you guys time in helping me. Of course, it does not look good that 2 Jasper engines have failed and I am sure that I will have to pay for another engine but at this point, I am thinking it might be best just to cut my losses. Try to sell the hull with the blown engine. I figured it up a few minutes ago and I have spent 25K for the boat which is free and clear now. Another 8-9K in engine work. If I get stuck with replacing engine number 4 and manifolds, ext..probably another 6K and I am stuck with a boat that is worth about 20K. The math does not add up. I amthinking cut and run. What say you?

Re: Is it probable that my engine is blown?

What type of training & current marine engine certifications do these mechanics have-- that are working on your boat? Ouch!

Nuber one mechanic had a company named "dockside services". I figured he was good to go with. #2 was Jody's Garage but he said his dad was like a great boat engine guy. Probably no my best move. I think I am just going to pull the plug and go down with the boat. It has really been a hard weekend with all the trouble I have had with this boat. I think my wife is going to leave me after the mood I have been in,,haha

Re: Is it probable that my engine is blown?

According to what you guys have been telling me and I really appreciate every one of you guys and I mean it, the engine is not the problem, it is either my mechanics or me. What do you feel I could get for a Wellcraft 240 SE that is in average condition with a blown engine or where can I find a source that would give me that kind of info? Thank you again guys,,,,This is a great place to find info and I hope I can learn more about boats and boat engines to help others as you guys have helped me.

Id like to know what happened to get that much water in cylinders and crankcase, need to drain oil, pull distributor and prime motor with fresh
oil ,dont give yet. I have seen derby cars still keep mrunning after more severe conditions, dont want to give you false hope but there is a chance. you need
a friend that is a gear head so you dont waste any more money.
