Re: Is it probable that my engine is blown?
Mechanic number 1 charged me for a new impeller also. He first told me that the impeller was the problem. When I came to pick the boat up, he had it chained and said that I owed him another 3500 because it was not the impeller, it was the manifold and it was cracked from freeze damage. Of course, I showed him that it had been winterized by the dock that I am located at and he said they must have not done it right. I was stuck and paid him. Took it out about 4 times, blew up. Went back to him, out of business, moved out of state. Took it to another marina here in Hendersonville and they contacted Jasper, Jasper said send them the engine, said it was my fault because I over heated it. Not the case on my end. Went to BBB. No luck. Went legal, they folded. Sent me another engine. Had it installed. Took it out 4 times for about 2 miles at best total. Engine blew. Spent this weekend trying to salvage what I have. Giuy tells me today at 7 pm that I had no chance of saving this engine. That is the whole story. You guys are great and I really appreciate all you guys time in helping me. Of course, it does not look good that 2 Jasper engines have failed and I am sure that I will have to pay for another engine but at this point, I am thinking it might be best just to cut my losses. Try to sell the hull with the blown engine. I figured it up a few minutes ago and I have spent 25K for the boat which is free and clear now. Another 8-9K in engine work. If I get stuck with replacing engine number 4 and manifolds, ext..probably another 6K and I am stuck with a boat that is worth about 20K. The math does not add up. I amthinking cut and run. What say you?
Having an engine failure is one thing, having a second and then a third on the same boat means something not mentioned hasn't been addressed.
I couldn't imagine installing a new long block on a customers boat without replacing the raw water pump impeller and thermostat.
In salt water boats, the manifolds and risers would be replaced. Freshwater only boats would have them seriously examined and pressure checked. If the original engine died from water intrusion of any kind they would be replaced.
The intake manifold could also be bad.
Then, to put in 2 different long blocks and still have the same old gas and keep using it.
Personally, I think your getting a new engine from Jasper the first time was luck, because you have a mechanic that isn't paying attention to detail, and/or we aren't getting the whole story, or what all has been checked.
