I don't have a collection, I have a storage business.
I pay for the privilege of storing the motors. People (hopefully ) will pay me to take them out of my storage facility.

Currently storing:

1986 Merc I6 115
1979 Merc I6 90
1985 Merc 75
1973 Evinrude 65
1971 Johnson 50
1989 Evinrude 40
1996 Mariner 25
1985 Johnson 15
1986 Merc 9.8
1973 Merc 9.8
1973 Johnson 9.5
2004 Merc 4.0
1949? Elgin 3.5

All runners except for the '89 Rude.

To keep my Cylinder Index up, I have gotten rid of all the 1 cyl engines except the 4.0 Merc.

"is it wrong to have 7 motors in the garage and then buy another?"

yes, you need an outboard shed. :)

I agree, but a shed doesn't do the old iron justice. When I built my 3-car garage "workshop" my intention was to restore an old classic woodie. But then it just got out of hand and now the 3 boats in there are dwarfed by the 63 motors!

All the comments about the wives are just terrible....LOL. Mine calls my workshop the "museum". But she's proud of it as well. She constantly brings her girfriends out back to see the collection. She has her horses and her other hobbies too, so it just has to be a compromise. And of course, when Great Grandma (the old woodie) goes out for a Sunday ride, the wife sits prominently in the front seat.

I have an antique 1937 Elto Pal on the wall of my office, plus a classic 1953 Evinrude on a stand on the patio. However, so far the wife has not ben agreeable to displaying the antique Rowboat Motor in the bedroom. But I have hope.....a new saddle and some snuggling and anything is possible!!
