I was watching a cable news program Wednesday evening when the speaker began talking about American death vs. replacement rates. He said that Americans are being born at a rate slower than the dying are being replaced. Therefore, the natural American population is declining.

On the other hand, there are certain groups amongst our population that are reproducing at a rate far exceeding replacement. Namely, Mexicans as well as other cultures and illegals.

By 2070(his numbers), Americans will be a minority in their own country, based on the replacement rates we are at presently at.

His complaint, Mexicans and other cultures are not teaching the "American" culture. They are teaching their native culture while dismissing America's.

His concern, "American culture" will be and is being lost forever to the other cultures coming into the USA unless something changes quickly. His suggestion, increase American reproduction.

Sumpin' aint right there CJY. First, are the "Mexicans" illegal or citizens? If citizens then I am not sure how "Americans" can be a minority.

Is this a race discussion, a culture discussion or an immigration discussion? In L.A. now it is projected that "whites" will be a minority sometime soon, but again not sure how Americans could become a minority . . .

He was talking of cultures other than "American."

For example, Mexican Americans teaching their children the Mexican culture exclusively. He claims illegals and the other cultures here legally cause his concerns. Mainly those ignoring the "American" culture. I keep putting American in quotes because I am unsure of his meaning.

It's a culture discussion.

In my experience this is a generational issue. 1st generation is one thing, 2nd generation assimilation is semi-auto and 3rd is complete. However, language is the first level of culture in my opinion and this is why I strongly believe in establishing English as our official language and eliminating bi-lingual anything from public sources. . .

Our American culture has been affected by every wave of immigration. I see no reason to fear additional "waves" with the possible exception of illegal immigrants as there is no weeding out of the criminal element . . .

There are many areas on Long Island now that are in fact 99% Spanish

But then again there has ALLWAYS been a POLISH TOWN in Riverhead that is like going to a different planet

I work with close to 90% spanish people and about 10% want to learn english there are so many AND all the goverment systems have made it so they dont really need to learn So they dont

I think within the context of what you are suggesting it doesn’t really matter if “new Americans” are citizens or not. American today is not the same as the America of yesterday. Today’s Americans don’t salute the flag or have a feeling they need to die to save this country. There is a question if it is even worth it anymore. In general, people that are educated do NOT want to become US citizens. Most of the people that are coming into America are uneducated and unskilled. It is not realistic to think they are a sponge for a new cultural awareness once here.

Americans, those that are born here and would die to save this country are quietly taking their assets and leaving America. They are going away to other places in the world where the quality of life is just so much better than in America.

First off the numbers I've heard are around 2040... 30 years sooner than touted by OP's source.
It's not just "mexicans", it's all ethnicity's other than Caucasian whites.

All you need to do is look at Europe. Muslims are multiplying like rabbits and NOT assimilating into society. Most other ethnic groups are not either. The same will happen here if not checked.

Thanks to abortion and Planned Parenthood, Liberals are reproducing the least among us, (That's not necessarily bad news to Conservatives) except for in the black community, where out of wed-lock pregnancy is at an all time high.

I've seen 14yr olds with green cards (free medical) and have a dependent on the card already. I was taking the little breeder to the hospital to drop another at the cost of all you tax payers. That was over 20yrs ago. I'll bet there's at least 10 on that card today and she may be a great grandmother by now.

Who are the "do-gooders"? All Presidents, past and PRESENT? Congress for the last many years. The last 12 have been Republican. The republican controlled state of Texas?

I don't give a rat's arse what a flippin' euro educated elite f_ _k thinks about this country. They're all taught in school to hate it. They're just too dumbed down to investigate themselves. You and I have both traveled extensively yet you somehow have come away with a totally different opinion of the US. There are responsible people that only have as many children as they can raise properly and provide for. Unfortunately those numbers appear to be low and going lower. It's costly to raise a child. Then you have a segment of irresponsible useless trash out there having babies and expecting the rest of society to take care of them. Guess which political party they will be in.

Well, it’s going to depend on what your thinking when you say “better”. If you mean taxes, any country is better than the US, except maybe Germany with a tax rate similar to the US. If you are talking health care it will depend on what ails you but in general Costa Rica, France, Germany, and Japan easily top US health care. Lets not even go into the cost of prescriptions and the controls congress recently dropped on folks going abroad to buy affordable medicine. Ok, we’ll talk about it, ANY OTHER COUNTY for prescription meds. Humm…about education, well, the US is in the toilet of industrialized countries for its public education system. For higher education France, Germany, Italy and England top the US. In fact, many Asia countries now have universities that rival those of the US.

In general, Spain (in particular), Argintina, Japan, and Honduras are countries that are attracting educated Americans and their wealth. Portugal is now also rising on the ex-pat radar.

But I will give it to the US for the best atomic weapons.
