Re: jack

I have to agree with strat on this one, he has convinced me that only stupid people buy anything but a bayliner. I'm selling my boat right now just so I won't be ashamed to be seen in a non-bayliner boat. what kind of flowers do you have to buy to be in the club? Do I have to buy all my supplies at wally world? Is there a secret handshake? I hope the goat doesn't have to come into the picture because I would be very uncomfortable going there...

Isn't strat the grand pubah of the batwhiners owners club?

If someone dosn't have a lot of money, and having a quailty boat isn't important to them, fine. I hope you all enjoy your Bayliners, and trueley wish you the best of luck with them.

WIth that said, just because you have it and it hasn't broke yet, don't push your bleaves on me and tell how this BS about how good it is, it sounds foolish.

Bayliners are bottom of the barrel boats, they are the Kias of the car world.

Re: jack

I already said it once but it bears repeating.
Bayliners or at least the smaller older runabouts were built OK for the hull but the rest was as cheap as you can imagine! I am sure you have seen mine and if you will notice everything but the hull, stringers and transom were replaced due to the, "if they cannot see it built it cheap," rule. :)

Bondo say the hulls cheap too but thats his opinion. I like it and measured it numerous spots the gel coat and the fiberglass. Its thick enough for me.

Like I said keep bashing them so I can get another cheap 1.

Actually Kia's are the Kia's of the car world. Bayliners would be the Kia's of the boat world ;)

I'm new to this whole thing but I can say one thing... I have never had anyone sneer at me for owning a Kia (and I have owned one.) But I do feel like some people on this forum sneer at those who have a Bayliner.

One last thought to all the people posting replies rolling their eyes and complaining about how these threads never die should remember that their post also bumped the thread to the top. *BUMP*

Well I'm saying the hulls are cheap too,and its not just an opinioun. I have seen many bayliners, mostley older ones in the 14-22 foot range with flexing hulls and rotted floors, including my uncles 1985 20' Maxum , which is the same hull as a bayliner, with bigger engine and better options, but the company and quality is the same. The hull will flex in rough conditions, stringers and rotted to the point where the center windsheald won't close anymore.

Isn't that the way it should be? If someone buys a boat and has problems with it then we should support them not the manufacturer. If the boat makers understand this then they will be more likely to make a better product. I would love it if a boat manufacturer was concerned that I could start a propaganda war if they sold me a piece of junk.

What would happen if Ford came out with another Pinto? Sometimes a brand just needs to die.

How many of the people that had problems with their boats were taken care of by the manufacturer? It's impossible to know but I think that there were many that weren't. Is their money less important than the bilgeliner name? Bedliners didn't get the reputation on a whim they earned it.

If you had a boat and it gave you a lot of trouble would you keep it in a nice dry location? Heck no, you would put it out in the backyard and forget about it. Then 20 years later some kid (young or old)would come by and say "I can fix that old boat up"

The Japanese figured this out in the 70's.

No that's not the way it should be.

Some things DO ACTUALLY CHANGE. Living in the past can lead to ones missing out on a good thing, sometimes.

Bayliner would not be the worlds largest single boat manufacturer if they consistantly produced an inferior product. I'll agree that some of the older stuff was marginal. You got what you paid for. And, you still do, to some extent.

There are plenty of boats, with so called good names that are no better, or worse, than a Bayliner.

There are plenty of so called "high line" boats out there with rotted stringers and floors too. I've fixed more than my share.

BTW, what was wrong with the Pinto? A pretty serviceable car, IMHO. A heck of allot better and safer than a Vega. So what else, that size could withstand a 60 mph+ rear end collision from a full size Impala. NOTHING. That's why almost every small car, of that era had recalls to attach components so that the fuel tanks wouldn't leak. Vegas, Chevettes, Toyotas, Datsuns, you name it.

Technology rolls forward. Sometimes we learn from past experiences. Ones experience with a Model T no way relates to a product (any automotive) built today.

But, as I say, again.

It takes a ton of fact to change an ounce of perception.

Genmar represents MANY brands.

Sea Rays quality, as of late, doesn't impress me. Not what it used to be, that's for sure.

Again-PERCEPTION.

Welp...glad you told me about that. Seems like Bayliners are as bad as Grady Whites having transoms and stringers rotting out, Parkers with the decks rotting out, older Mako's with decks and stringers rotting out and on and on and on. Yup...they're all on the same list. Maybe we should all just give up the boating altogether.

Luna Sea, If you don't like the other threads... don't read them. Sorta' the same way I'm not going to read your trash any more. Go sit on a tack, and same to you Bondo. You don't like Bayliners... fine. Don't rub your opinion in everyones face. Nobody wants to hear it. #1 selling boat or #2, whatever it is, why would you spew that garbage here when these are the boat owners? You're only trying to start arguments. Congratulations, you've done it again! I started one of those threads looking for information on mid 90's and up models but you have to come in and highjack the thread with your b.s. hacking them and calling them bilgeliners or whatever. That's obviously not what I was enquiring about. If I'm ever in the market for a smart a$$ useless reply I'll surely call you cool dudes first. Now, you cool dudes go put your hockey helmets on and wait for your bus. Maybe the mods could start a new topic called "Cool dudes with nothing better to do than hack other people and thier property"... you guys could post your little black hearts out.
Have a nice day. :)

Re: jack

Baywhiners....geez, there's a good one. I have absolutely nothing against any of the mentioned boat brands (eg: Sea Ray). They are all nice, well made boats. Maybe somewhat overpriced, but they cost what the market will bear. My point is simply that my Bayliner is a high quality boat. Non-owners who have no clue can argue it all they want, but going by generally-accepted definitions of what constitutes "quality", it's all there in my boat. Yet this seems to offend so many iBoats members! Think I'm wrong? tell me where to look. It is not, as Bondo endlessly repeats, an "illusion". Once again guys, where should I look on my boat to dispel the illusion?

Most, if not all, of the negative comments above are by people who don't currently own a Bayliner or never have owned one. So that makes them experts I guess. I have owned two and both had no quality issues whatsoever. My last boat was 16 years old, and surveyed out perfectly when I sold it. Not bragging, just stating a fact. The survey report had two minor issues, neither related to Bayliner itself (Origo and Jabsco).

I am not, as some think, "in blind love with the brand" and that's why I'm defending it. I would own another brand if it suited my purpose and represented good value. I just despise brand snobs. That's my motivation. I can throw facts at them and keep issuing my challenge to show me where my boat is the "illusion of a quality boat" forever.

So far nobody's done it! :D :D :D
