Re: jack

I don't think there is any relationship Papa Bear. I think the poster was trying to show that for two years Bayliner wasn't the top selling brand/company.

Re: jack

exactly, there were some discussions that the bayliner was the #1 boat, but it is #2. and until very recently genmar was #1 and brunswick was #2. However I do know that they make a great bowling alley!

It will end when it warms up and quits raining :p

Re: jack

i look at it this way, for some of us without a pocket full of cash enjoy boating and family time also. For me, i just purchased a 2005 bayliner175. whats wrong with that? No matter what boat you have is better than no boat at all

Re: jack

I challenge everyone to crash their boat into a bridge or some other solid object at lets say 15 mph and be sure to send in pictures so we can see if your boat is the best. :D
DISCLAIMER: Damages are sole responsibility of the boat owner.

Re: jack

I got to agree that Bayliners tend to fall apart fast .You ever notice a bayliner for sale , looks good and clean til you peek over the sides and see everthing inside is falling apart.
On the other hand a friend has a bayliner that is center console and seems to have held up well for its age. Maybe its a matter of keeping them covered cleaned and dry.

:)
Didn't this thread die yet?
Hey I've got a Bayliner and it's a 1973 (17' Discovery) with nothing done to it other than scheduled basic maintenance. It's in great shape... the bottom line is that if you treat your boat like crapola', that's what it'll be. If you treat it right, it'll treat you right!

Every boat is different so let's judge them for what they are, not for what the neglected ones were.

Re: jack

I cut up a mid 80s 17' or 19' OB Bayliner once with a chain saw to see how it was made. The structure and glass thickness was same as most production boats but a little sloppy. The stringers were huge yellow cedar...larger than any other boat of that length I've seen. The worst part of the boat was lack of bedding under fittings and the cleats were just screwed in without nuts. Actually I was expecting a lot worse because of the rep they had. It wasn't really bad when compared to other production boats. Back then I think they had less QC than now and the perception of being bad still lingers.

Re: jack

Thx BillP. As I said before the hull is good it just all the other stuff that was bad. There are some deep dings on the hull and the gel thickness is at least an 1/8 inch and some is more as I was drilling holes for Nav/anchor lights and horn.
Well I gotta go test the boat today I hope I can find the 2-3 foot waves to see if it breaks apart.

Pray for me.

Will post back if I survive! :D

Will not if it sinks. :(

Re: jack

I entered the boating world in a canoe. Yup in 1995 I purchased a 15' fiberglass canoe. I made a motor mount/seat from some funky pallet I found at work. I bolted on a 2 x 4 on top and slapped on a trolling motor, and I was gone. I put over 1200 hrs of fishing from that canoe. If I had a camera to show you the expresions I got froms folks at the dock you would could laugh for hours.

Point is you get what you can afford and use the heck out of it and not worry about anyone elses opinion on what youve got. If a bayliner is all yo can afford then so be it. If someone wants to bash you about what youve got then, then chances are they don't have anything better to do. If you are spending any amount of time defending what youve got then youve got nothing better to do.
The lake that I put in to go boating at at his moment has some trully amazing boats on it. And yes I look at them, but still enjoy what i've got.

Done...

Arrgghhh,

When's it gonna stop? Anyone else getting tired of those 2 threads bragging about what great boats they are? You get what you pay for. Period. Yeah, they look nice at the docks with the coffee makers plugged in and the flowers on the table. But they are NOT high quality, or even quality boats. OK done with rant, poof me.......
this was posted buy a guy who owns a grady white ! ! !

its such a waste of bandwidth!
