Re: Job interview......about time!

Well the interview went very well i think. They took me through the shop and showed me around.
I gave them my Resume and they gave me the long form application and said please return it by Monday.
The guy stated that would give them time to have my back ground check done..(good sign)

He also said it was part time to start but if i work out it could lead to full time.
The position would start May 7th.
The starting pay was so-so at 150 a day plus food and lodging expenses but he said that would increase with good job performance.

So,,I guess i will know for sure by Monday.
He said he had a couple more interviews to do but none of them had any track experience and were just truck drivers.
That gives me an edge anyway....;)

I'm sure i could hook you up...lol!

They had Dale Jrs wrecked car from the other week in the back of the shop too..
They were setting some cars up with no rear brakes for the burn-out competition they have at Lowes before the big race..
They said those motors usually get blown to bits during the burn outs...lol!

Gary - When I solicit to fill vacancies, I usually interview 5-10 candidates per position and narrow it down to a choice of two-three potential employees. More often than not, the person I select is the one who takes the time and extends the courtesy to send a followup email the next day after the interview thanking me for my time and highlighting the good points.

Dear Mr. X,
Thank you for taking the time to interview with me yesterday. After our discussion, I am confident that my experience and ability mesh well with the attributes you are looking for in a potential employee. I was very impressed with your operations and look forward to contributing to the future success of the Dupont team.
Best Regards,
Gary

It's very simple, very effective, and often overlooked!

Good Luck!!

That's very interesting. I don't want to disagree with the above but I will say use your best judgement. I actually lost a job by doing that once. The guy had offered the position and everything was set. I was going through a contract shop for engineering positions. As soon as he got my email thanking him for the interview he called the shop back and said they filled the position with someone else. Apparently he was very old school and thought the after interview email to forward of me.

Just a thought. I have gotten positions before because of it as well. Other candidates failed to follow up.

Does sound good. The track experience has to be important, and they could easily talk with references about you as well . . . Fingers crossed here!!

Edit: I just had a thought . . . If Jeffie calls and asks about some boat-freak-truck-driving-dude what should I say? Of course I would start off with some niceties like, "You were damn lucky a couple of weeks back. Good thing that Jimmy let you win. I am guessing you wish you never mentioned his name to Rick, huh?"

Gary..
As electronic as this world is...I have learned over the years that many people really appreciate a handwritten THANK YOU card.
I know it sounds cheesy..But it shows that you took the time to write the note and mail it...

I can mass email 2,000 of my customers an email...Just saying.....

Whatever it takes to get you B2W bud!

I hope you put the 150,000 iboats members down as references :D

You tell those people that you have access to a special Nascar racing motor retirement program here on iboats :D

Fingers crossed for you!

I just hope Jeff doesn't find the stolen motors in your possession! YIKES! You better ship those bad boys to me quick ... I'll keep you out of trouble. (And don't let them know about the IRS, either!) Hey, come to think of it, when do I get my team jacket! LOL!

Following up on an interview with a brief thanks is pretty much customary. As such, my reaction to the guy that you ran into, is that you dodged a bullet by not ending up with the job - if he is that socially inept, he'd have probably
been a PITA to work for.

Sorry that you had to go throught the experience, though.

you know how when you're out of work any job that you can do seems like the right one.............yeah even knowing that I wasn't real excited about the possibility of working there. I think he and I would have clashed from the get go. I wound up getting something much better the nex tweek.
