Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Perhaps this is not the proper question to be asked by a forum member with only 150 something posts to his credit, and having been here for only a little over 3 months.

If it's that big a deal... you all can go over HERE where you be asked to pay a fee to participate in the general chat forums.

I agree 100%. It's there site, let them run it the way they want. I think they do a outstanding job. Just my 2 cents worth.

CK has a cool boat. It looks real sturdy. That would make a perfect mooring runner for me if I could find one like it.

No, it doesn't. This forum belongs to it's members. Without them Iboats would be nothing. Iboats should give it's members what they want, and this post is simply making it clear to them exactly what that is.

Nothing personal Coleman. Just my observation.

After all, you wouldn't appreciate me joining your chat room this afternoon, and then start suggesting how you should run it. That would simply be bad manners. ;)

Wow, what an "entitlement" attitude. I would bet that iboats barely makes back in sales to forum participants what it costs to actually run the site. Loyalty goes out the window when a better price is found.

This forum belongs to iboats and they get to make the rules.

kagee, when did post counts start to matter? i think he started the poll in response to my original thread. should i question you based on showing up almost 2 years after me? no, i shouldn't.

this question is clearly different from the others that lead to it being a private site, etc. iboats wants to moderate the site like they see fit? every right to do so. i just raised the question in hopes of 'helping' them. i don't think the additional forums help, but rather weaken the site. again, just my opinion.

Wrong. Like I said above, it costs next to nothing to run this forum. I host several forums myself, and moderate another about the size of iboats. I know EXACTLY what it takes to run a forum like this. Do you? I have spent enough money at iboats to keep this forum running for many many months. Have you? Yes, we certainly are "entitled" to something here, because like I said, without us Iboats would be nothing. The people running it would be working at Wendy's. The only thing that "belongs" to Iboats is a site with no members, no posts, and no revenue. If Iboats doesn't give it's members what they want that's exactly what they will have again. Iboats would not be running this forum if it wasn't profitable, guaranteed.

If Iboats wants to make money it's in their best interest to give the members exactly what they want. That's how you run a business. Any business. If 67% of the members don't want the brand forums, why keep them?

If Iboats wants to keep the brand forums that's up to them, but anybody who thinks they are somehow making money, finding more members, or that Iboats can just do whatever the hell they want is highly delusional.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Yes as a matter of fact I do know what it costs to run a forum. A 40,000 member forum costing "next to nothing" to run? If only! Also, why are you asking me if I've spent money at iboats? What does that have to do with anything?

Nice comment saying the people at iboats would be working at Wendy's without all the members...that's just mean.

Sometimes (like this time) it's not always what one says, but how one says it. A lot of anger and attitude in your post.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Like I said, I host several forums. Bandwidth and servers are very, VERY cheap in 2005! Do you honestly think iboats would be running this forum if it wasn't making them a profit? That is the entire purpose of this forum.

This question is for the iboats management, who I know is reading this:
If 67% of the members don't want the brand forums, why keep them?

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

I want to thank everyone for their comments on this. We realize that the manufacturer forums are not taking off quickly and this is to be expected because there are so many brands out there. The fact that there are so many brands makes boating more difficult than it should be. iboats wants to make boating better, easier, and safer. In order to accomplish these goals, boaters need more accessible information. The proper organization of this information is important. Asking questions in the right forum is important too. If people start asking prop questions in the Zodiac forum that isn't going in the right direction. We have been reviewing all of this and we agree with many of you that improvements ought to be made. It won't be an easy solution but we are optimistic that a good solution is possible. Please don't expect anything to happen over night but rest assured that we know improvements need to be made.

Thanks again for the input and suggestions everyone!

Well, I guess that answers that question.
Once they get up and running, they will be a big help, IMO.

Wow 67% of the 48 members out of THOUSANDS of members.

Not hardly a reliable number to go on.

While I semi agree with you alden, its prolly 48 memebers that spend actual time in the forums. I bet most of the registered members have maybe 10 posts that were from the one question they had and then left. I think if iboats were looking at organic growth then that 67% may be a viable statistic to look at.

I feel that I'm missing out on some good discussions because I don't have time to browse each forum.
