When i registered to be a member of iboats, i agreed to abide by their forum rules and regulations, However our generous host choose to the run this forum it is indeed their business.

To those who seem fit to be critical and displeased with the natural growth of this forum, you are definitely not held as a hostage here, of that i am certain.

Ken, Not just like his. You have an opinion, he has an interpretation of the poll without basis and apparently is about to take over iboats anyday. Hehe

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Based on ZmZo statistical analysis:

Poll has changed from 67% to 64%, from this one can see that the majority of votes coming in now would indicate that the trend is people are in support of the boat forum 3% growth in the for's. Therefore, by tommorrow the majority will be overwhelmingly for keeping it.

That makes me right about everything and all of you that oppose (I know you are few and far) must be wrong. Yeah right. And then you all just want to pick on me.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

This is why I don't post very much here, even though I read posts several time per week. It seems every time somebody posts an opinion you don't like, a bunch of people get together and start attacking them for no reason. Then the post turns into nothing but mindless dribble completely unrelated to the original topic.

You guys need to grow up. All of you are acting like children. BOTH sides of the arguement. If any of you acted like this in public you would be thrown out of whatever establishment you are in.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

Please everyone, let's keep to the topic which we have so kindly hijacked :) It is the plan to keep, but improve the manufacturer forums. Many suggestions have been made and they are certainly under consideration. Meanwhile, let us meditate for a moment and see if we can't demonstrate to our political leaders (they are watching closely remember) that it is possible and respectable to carry on discussions where we point out pros and cons while not being overly critical of those on the other side of the current debate.

Oh yes, I'm going to need more popcorn while we see how this unfolds ;)

Wetcandle, Only 12 post, why we think your opinion mattered anyway. Mod 5, I think I just agreed with a couple of guys on the wrong side of the aisle I am going to light a candle at church tonight and pray I am not moving to the right!!!!

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

There are probably 100 members who are continually active on DC. There are another few hundred who are continually active on the help fora and rarely look at DC. There are another plenty-leven thousands of memberes who have posted less than 10 times, anywhere.

All were drawn to iboats fora because of a particular interest. The ones who stay found that interest satisfied. The ones who didn't return are mostly people who got a question answered and the rest whose interest was not satisfied.

There are a handful who left angry because they were treated like "outsiders", and rudely.

Of the tens of thousands who came and went there were people who wanted to chat with other owners of their particular boat. They may come back, but if Joe Bayliner wants to chat with Bayliner owners he will now have a forum in which to do that without getting bashed about his boat. Same for Zodiac owners, Boston Whaler owners, etc.

To build this new membership will take time, fine tuning and a lot of moderating.

The opinions of 67% of 48 DC-active members are useful and interesting, but not overwhelming. I see no reason to object other than trivial inconvenience to members who are active in the boat fora.

When I first came here there were 1000 members, total. I signed on as #1031.

A LOT has changed since then and a lot more will change in the future.

I don't think a protest poll is in anyone's best interest.

This is the unrelated mindless dribble to which I was referring. Thank you for proving my point.

Absolutely. My friend who showed this forum to me left after a few hundred posts because of the ridiculously unnecessary rudeness as proven in this post. I have been reading this forum for over a year now and it seems to have gone downhill very sharply the last few months.

Good point, iboats could post the question in every forum and see what those results are if they felt like it. DC is the place where people go to talk about things other than boats. That's what makes DC interesting. The opinion from here is probably less important than we think. :) The manufacturers area is certainly not a problem... if it's useful for some people... why not? Oh, my Tollycraft never made the cut but Luhrs, Contender, Malibu and lots of other minority/small groups are there. Am I bitter? Nope.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

It's going to take some time in the active, as well as non-active periods of the year to see how this will work out.
Now, as far as missing out on a good conversation, if it's in the catagory of Boat you own, well then, you are lucky to be an owner of the same type of rig or you most likely wouldn't have been there, UNLESS you are trying to add constructively, to the thread-the main purpose of this board/forum, in which case there is a good chance you're NOT there to start trouble.
If you're surfing, looking for a heated discussion in other areas, then, in "my" view you are looking for trouble.
Maybe the problem is not the manufactures forum, maybe it's in, well, let's say "The non-help" forum.....think hard about that.

You're going to make an excellent addition to the boards wetcandle. You seem very laid back and strike me as a fun person. We need more of that type here. So many seem to take things so seriously and can't keep things in perspective. Good to have you onboard shipmate. :)

No, it doesn't. This forum belongs to it's members. Without them Iboats would be nothing. Iboats should give it's members what they want, and this post is simply making it clear to them exactly what that is.
Wow, what an "entitlement" attitude. I would bet that iboats barely makes back in sales to forum participants what it costs to actually run the site. Loyalty goes out the window when a better price is found.
YEA WHAT HE SAID.It dosnt affect me much. neither of my boats are listed in the mfg forums. so I dont go there. Im mot rich enough to own a Bayliner. ;) :D :D

This forum belongs to iboats and they get to make the rules.

Re: Keep or Drop the Manf. Forums

After reading this entire thread, I am reminded of the opening of the forum for PWC's and the less than "warm" welcome it got from some of the existing members of the forums. It didn't take off right away but in time, it did. Give the section on boats a chance. To condem the forum before it hardly gets of the ground is not fair to the folks who are and will use it, let alone the owners of the iboats forums who, if you haven't noticed, do there very best to make all who visits this site, to have a good experience. If there are changes that need to be made to the new forum, I'm sure they will be made. The owners of this site didn't get to where they are, by being dumb.

I think it should stay.
Since there are not very many boats in a certain section, some people might find it helpful.
In my case, there are limited people who have a "Winner" boat and it is nice to be able to see the few people who have one as well.
It gives me an idea of what I can do to my boat and vise versa.

I am for the new forums.

Brother Chris.
