Did somebody say foreign order? :D.....lucky you.....thats one way to improve your aluminium welding skills, nice work.

More like my scrap yard find is prolly 6061 T6 which maybe a problem. or not a problem if I get it stuck together well. Hey It's only 400 lbs I am going to hang on it and put 150 Hp of pressure on it, maybe I will chain the motor to the boat Hill Billy style just in case!:facepalm::rolleyes: HA HA LOL

My goodness, I am punch drunk this morning, :D

I think I'd be nervous about an engine that has been sunk. Or at least have the price reflect it (not $1200, half maybe). Ya know....

Hey, up in my area we seem to have a bunch of 120/140's and 305's in old glassers. Next most common is the 350. I know the 4.3 V6 or the I6 would be a better fit but any consideration to the others? The 3.0 wouldn't be a speed demon but it would be very efficient eh?

havent been here in a long while. i believe i bought a 30 johnson off you mag. it was a nice 1 came in a box... islander looks great. i work in a tin shop and everytime we try to break or roll form aluminum it ends up like 30% dont rip or tear from the strees of flexing and bending. i know a guy around here that bought an islander that a tree fell on and turned it into what is the nicest aluminum cc ive ever seen. ill try to get a picture sometime. keep up the good work.

tony

p.s. my budd y used the boat after i got your lower unit on it and wrecked it again......sold it 2 months later 3 motors was enough for that hull. but did just score a 76 16 super sport w/ 03 john 50hp 93 15 jon and riggers and such

Small world Ducks, ya that one was a basket case:D LOL, sucks to tear up another lower, but some of what we do is hard on them!!!!!!!! The ol aluminum definitely did not like bending, it made the bend and held shape but was cracked half through.

Got a little more done on the pod, ways to go on it, hope to have a big day tomorrow, gonna try to get the pod/ swim platform done and some primer and paint inside the boat to protect the gluvt, we will see how it goes!!!! Update tomorrow night. See ya all

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

out board bracket is basically done, gotta leak test with air pressure, cut deck plate hole (bomar 10" be here next week) drill mounting holes, prep for paint-- little smoothing out with scotch pads, ran out of alum wire, so I did not get my kicker plate done, found a remote troll I am thinking about instead, can add kicker bracket before paint if the remote troll doesn't work out! So after 427$ in alum, 8 spools of wire and a dozen grinder wheels here we go.
Took covering passes to fill all gaps, looks like crap

Now much better
100_1092.jpg

100_1095.jpg

Welded a 3/8" plate to the back for the motor to mount to, gives me 5/8" thickness at the pod
100_1100.jpg

And added some reinforcement for the top of the plate, only 3/8 thick here

To be continued

Hopefully I can get some SEM, and the oil based primer on and be ready for topcoat by the end of tomorrow.

Good looking pod, MD. Any idea on the weight? And buying paint, next is putting stuff back in/on the hull. Always a good feeling.

With one arm I can roll it over on that table, If it wasn't so bulky I am sure I could pick it up and carry it with Two arms, so I guess it's around 125 lbs, I would like to get it "officially" weighed so I know.

Great job Mag, that pod should work awsome. The hull is looking nice and clean inside.

Alright, Sunday morning and the smell of SEM is in the air!!!!!!!!!!

Viper grip is what I have used for years on many projects, here is the data sheet
View attachment viper grip.pdf

3 coats of Viper grip on at 11AM, 1/2 hour to an hour of dry time before I can spray the Majic sandable primer.
