Cool resto magnumdeke, I didn't realize you had a thread going with a offshore bracket as well. The bracket you made looks pretty solid. I'm going to be in a similar phase of restoration on my blue fin and was planning on using the nautolex. Are you fastening your floor down first and then putting the nautolex down for a 1 piece look? I've contemplated that or pre-putting down the floor and folding over plywood with staples, but then I'd have the sectioned look, and then the screws would showing. I like the idea of fastening the floor down first then putting down the vinyl, but where would you attach the ends of the vinyl? Do you just staple it at the edges or roll it up the boat sides?
Hi Mag, I'm not sure I understand your process. Some folks put the floor down in sections with the screws/rivets showing which is good for access later, but is not as leak-proof and could be argued leaves potentially ugly fasteners showing. Others put the floor down with countersunk rivets, fill the holes and put Nautolex down in one piece giving a cleaner and more waterproof installation, but more difficult to access the bilge if you needed to.My floor is down, I will pull the rivets i have in down the center and fill the holes and fair all joints and foam holes in so the floor is flat and go with a one piece floor. Re rivet after the nautolex is in, the stern to bow outside edges will get stapled then the side panels go on and there will be an aluminum angle screwed to the floor and side panel bottom with a bead of 3M 5200 behind it.

If I'm reading your planned process correctly, you're putting the Nautolex down in one piece on a floating floor, then installing the rivets that will now pierce and mar the waterproof surface and then use "permanent" 5200 when you secure the sidewalls. This method sounds like you're incorporating the worst traits of both processes and getting none of the benefits. - Grandad
This is what I am also struggling with. I want to do the sections so that I can roll the vinyl over the edges and staple it, because I can't access the edges with a stapler if I put the vinyl down after securing the floor. Though, my bilge and livewell aerator will be acceible regardless of what method I use. If you do the one piece approach do you just staple the vinyl at the very edges of the plywood floor? What would you recommend Grandad?
Nice looking Nautalex Mag. My method for the floor and vinyl (right?? or wrong??) I use large head 3/16 rivets to the stringers and the end of the ribs, not countersunk. Then I glue my vinyl down over top and fun it up the side of the hull about 3 inchs. Then my side panels come down to the floor, meaning all water will be shed to the bilge. If I ever have to access the hull I can draw a center line on the stringer rivets make a straight cut in the vinyl pull it back a little, drill the rivets, then cut out and access section of deck, do the needed repairs seal the deck cut out and re-fasten everything.
looks good
No problems with "bubbling" around the rivet heads?????
We'd better not hijack Mag's thread, but perhaps my reply will help Mag out as well in deciding. I decided that looks and water-tightness was more important than access to the bilge, considering this was the first access need in 40 years on my '72 Holiday. If I need to replace a rivet, I'll use closed end blind rivet replacements so access should be unnecessary. This is what I am also struggling with. All the Nautalex users here say that fish blood clean-up is a snap. They just hose it out. You could forget about fishing and keep a pristine boat.![]()
