Very funny.... Trust me, no one wants this phase of the resto to be over more than I do. Hope to squeeze in some work this afternoon.

haha, phase is correct, because it seems like the grinding NEVER ends...... keep it up and before you know it you will be right back at it......with a completed boat looking for another one.......

the grinder rarely gets put away......during the build......there are times when its just the fastest tool for the job. that means....out it comes.....

however, it takes so long to suit up, and you are only doing a 30 second job......that you dont suit up.....just the respirator. and some times not even that.

arrrgh......thats when the itch really gets to you

Suit? What suit? I did my entire job in jeans and t-shirt....and a mask (most of the time). The itching becomes normal after a few days, and when you are done, it feels like somethings missing...I thought about gluing my grinder into the bottom of the keel as a gift to the sea gods!

tyvec is for consumers........

the best suit i ever used was a bio med siut.......very thin rain coat like suit.....like a cheap poncho......i am trying to find a supplier for them.

avalable in all sizes and they dont rip ....the only cost 10 bux and i got 60 uses out of one suit......the only reason it got destroyed was because of the packing tape i put around my wrists and ankles......

great suit....
pants and a poncho type hoodie.

i could go straight to bed after a gull days grind and not have any worries about dust on my body or in the bed

PM,
Doing some nice work. I just caught up on my reading too and watched the Video. Looked like you bribed the labor pool. It's always nice to see the family getting involved. My dwife has gotten involved a couple of times, she walked past the boat and sad you need to clean this mess up, and then went back in the house. LOL
I cut through my hull twice too. not hard to fix either.

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

74...I have enjoyed reviewing your thread. Hop on anytime. Oops will likely see your post pretty soon and give you more detail.

I found one HERE that might be what he is talking about. They have several options. Of course, the tougher crowd (chiming in above) can grind without one, but not me. Last night, I had a my suit on, my wrists taped, my ankles taped, my gloves taped shut at the wrists, and a neck/face sleeve that i bought at home depot for a couple of bucks. Of course, after suiting up like like I was going on a space mission, I hop in the boat, plug in my grinder and she spits out some white dust and gave up her last breath.... (Murphy's first cameo appearance on my build). Good thing I bought the 1 year protection plan at Lowe's (must have for grinders) - will trade her in today for new one!!! Luckily, I was able to find a spare grinder at the shop and ended up being able to get some good work done....

Hopefully, I will be in a position to start installing the transom this weekend.

Nice work PM. Love your Glass stand...

Jay... looks familiar, huh? At least I gave you props for it in the vid :p Of course, you have pretty much influenced just about everything I am going to do on my boat.

OJ, Bob, ChrisCraft, GunsUp, GT, Kent, Mike, Roger, Jason... Thanks as always for stopping by. I really do appreciate you guys taking the time to stop by and cheer me on....

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

Thank you PMC. I will be starting my glassing in spring, since my boat is under a tarp tent. But i wanna buy the supplies little at a time, with the biggest spender being the glass and resin a week before i begin the process. But thanks for the link, and yeah i cant stand putting on my coat after messing around with fiberglass only to find out the fibers transfered to my coat! now i gotta get it washed!!! my grinder i bought from Harbor freight, 2 year replacement warranty for 20 bucks. well worth it i can replace it as many times as i want. But hopefully come christmas time my wife will get me that 2 stage compressor ive been buggin her for so i can just use a DA sander and not have to worry.
Awesome work on your boat my friend keep it up :)

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

PM on the plywood, put it on a flat surface, floor, heavy table etc. Put stickers under the bottom sheet, 2x4, or something similar. I would use 4 in your case, then stack the plywood on them. You are dealing with 2 problems, moisture and gravity. Lay them flat and let gravity work for you. As for moisture, laying them on concrete causes the bottom of the plywood to suck up water vapor coming out of the concrete ( out of the ground below the concrete etc.....its called water vapor pressure, read up on it, there are tons of flooring lawsuits over it) Anyhow, the stickers allow ventilation under the plywood which helps to eliminate the moisture issue. You will almost always have some curl or twisting in the sheet, but this will help minimize it. Weighting down the top will also help, but it should be a distributed weight. Putting water on the ply is a BAD idea. The ply sucks up resin because of the capillary action of wood, if it is full of water it won't suck up resin. Make sure you get that stuff dried out. I would put stickers between the sheets since you have wet them down.

Just spacers between the wood. Usually used in stacking lumber to dry...

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1).

Arch,
Thanks for the heads up. I basically just got them damp so they would sit down. I've had fans on them for a week, and it will probably be a month before I use those 2 sheets. I have 3 others that are dry and straight. I would have never thought about the moisture coming from the concrete, so that's a good tip. I'll make sure everything is good and bone dry before it goes in and will even buy new ply if I have to. Definitely want to do it right!!! Thanks for watching the videos... That's why I post them... (not to show others what to do, but so that you guys can tell me when I am drifting off course.... and need a little correction).
