lol........gotta share two things.

1. someone stole my safety gloves at the shop......i was grinding to day, no wrapped sleeves, bare hands. from my biceps down is raw.
2. when i was building the hull extensoon boat.... i was sanding (fairing) the gellcoat many hours by hand.
after i left the shop one night i went to 711 for a pepsi and smokes.....i didnt look in the mirror before i walked in. i didnt under stand why the clerk looked at me in horror......... i didnt know till i got home.

Wow.... Unless she hangs out on this thread, she probably thought you had a serious substance abuse problem, that you had been on 5-day bender, and that were about to rob the store....

You know the Tinny guys are going to show this to their kids as part of their "say no to glass" message.

Looking great so far craney! When I did my resto I had many days when I looked like Oops, the white dusty monster! I'll never forget the itching in every nook and crevice, and laying in bed all night itching, but can't sleep because plans were running through my mind 100 mph! Can't wait to start all over again! Keep up the great work looking forward to seeing your hours of itching and backaches pay off for you and your family! There's nothing like the feeling of pride and accomplishment you get when you use your boat sucessfully!

I think this look scares my neighbors, passing residential traffic and my kids to a degree. At least you get to look like this is private.

remember patrick.....you are just grinding the old wood out.....and scuffing the top layer of resin off where you want to glass. leave the rest.

if you can, go to a larger grinder. a 7 inch goes twice as fast as a little 4 1/2.

ahhhh.....the fun times of getting close and personal with your grinder.... i found that a cold water rinse first then a soak in the tub with very warm/hot water and cider vinegar really helps cut down the itch. keep at it and before you know it you will be at it again doing some more

Yea, 7" grinder with 24 grit disk. It will cut really fast. It will cut thru the hull if your not carefull. Don't let it get up on its edge of the disk. Thats where it does most of the damage. Harbor Frieght has a 9" grinder for about $60.00 bucks. I have one and it dosn't slow down. You can get a 7" backing pad to use with it.
By the way I do have a cradle I use to poor my resin with. Thanks for the input about the pump.

Thanks for the advice guys. Probably about one more 2-3 hour grinding session before I start the rebuild. I'm ready for the next chapter... It's been about 9 weeks of demo!!!

Hydra, thanks for chiming in as always. I have been using those 36 grit disks you recommended and they are great. Loved the pic of you suited up. Although i think oops probably has honors locked down, we should start a thread where people post their best (or should I say worst) grinding pic... I think the tinny guys have a fair point that we look pretty weird and creepy...

Yeah, this is definitely the painful part.

Jay, resist as you might, you know the curse is life-long affliction and it will draw you into another project soon. Plus, your legions of fans might start rioting outside your house if you don't start something soon.

I'm not sure if it's your favorite style or era, but I would love to see you do a woody with a big ol inboard power plant and though hull exhaust out the back. Sawdust probably beats glass dust anyday. Something different... New challenge? Just thinking out loud.
