Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1, episode 8).
Nahhh, I'm not giving up that easy
I'm still a newbie, but not quite as gullible
LOL......i was a little worried about that post...but i knew you were smart enough to see through bud

Jokes aside, oops could you be so kind as to paste in your hull repair methodology here. It would be a good reference point for me and might help others that are following for basic repair tips.
Thanks guys,
my pleasure.
grinding/cutting thru the hull is something that is going to happen.....even to a veteran. so when it happens, just don't panic.....its an easy fix.
in most of the areas where a grind thru happens, it is because you are intending to lay more glass on top of this area any how. so super special attention to the area is not necessary.
after cleaning out the slice with acetone.....use a resin, filler mix called "peanut butter"
this is a mix of resin, cabosil and milled fibres. there are several examples here on the forum.....some in the hull extension thread, some on the open forum.....
my favourite in this situation is "oops super dooper structural peanut butter" pat pend. tm

.
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=507690&highlight=sooper+dooper
(for other more no structural fillers such as fairing use a different mix, the hull extension thread in my sig, has the recipe for that)
ok.......fill the slice with the peanut butter......let it drip thru the slice and fall on the floor. (put card board or something on the floor.....you cant get this stuff off concrete. it is that strong.)
while it is still wet.....take 2 layers of csm and glass over the slice from the inside......let cure.
now do the repairs to the hull that you were planning......stringers ect.... however.....just make sure that when you are tabbing by the repair area.....just go over the slice with more glass...as you glass over the stringer......glass the slice as well. you want at least two layers of 1708 over the gash......this is easy as the tabbing for the stringer and stringer glass will be this much any how.
forget about the outside till you are done and ready to tackle the outside as a whole.
when you do get to the outside of the hull, grind off the excess peanut butter that has gooped thru the slice. grind the gellcoat off the hull 3 inches each side form the gash.
clean with acetone.......and add 2 layers of 1.5 csm un waxed resin. over the slice....make the second layer slightly larger than the first.
after that is cured.....just take a sander to the area and sand some what smooth....
then do a standard gell coat repair.
the whole repair will take less than one hour. (except the gellcoat phase, that will take a little longer, but not much)
that is it.......beer drinking time
cheers
