resin burns !......take a little propane torch to the roller......light the stuff on fire.....wait a minit.... put it out......let it cool.....light it again.....and burn the gunk off.

just be careful.....the resin burns at a higher temp than the alum melts....so dont get your girly-man roller (i have one of those by the way) get too hot.

it is very common to have to burn the resin off the roller, almost to the point of being called maintenince

I agree with oops. I have burned the resin off quite a few times before. I also use a wire brush to help remove the hot resin. Be very careful when using the wire brush it will throw hot resin on you.

I also use a small buckit with just enough acetone in it to cover the little girly roller while I am glassing. This helps keep the resin soft while not in use. I keep the buckit covered with a heavy shop rag to keep the acetone from evaporating so fast. When done just clean with the wire brush.

I also use a small 6" roller with short hair to apply the resin. I can controll how much resin I put on and spread it out very evenly. Just like Friscoboater did in his thread.

Well, there are many merits to the girly roller! 1) It's very slimming, like wearing stripes and stuff 2) It accentuates those new highlights 3) it really matches that new dress



I was too dumb to figure out that that roller was supposed to be used without any actual roller cover... and I thought they sent me the wrong thing LOL

GAD I HATE THAT........make me want to sit in the driveway with a paint ball gun.......im sure the plow operators love doing that

You both forgot the best part , is when they decide to come back and widen the roads after 3-4 good storms and they leave 2-3 ft in diameter peices of ice about 4 ft deep laying accross your driveway. Can't shovel it, to heavy, blower will just growl at it bouncing around After an hr you finally get it moved . The joys of winter we all look forward too

It is sort of a pain in the butt, but you get use to having the winter months. Actually I enjoy walking behind the blower , it get's you off the couch and you get a little exercise. We have done the go south for a few weeks in the winter months. Only did it twice cause I wanted to find out if it was what I wanted to do. I have asked the kids why they have not moved away because of the cold and snow and they all say no we like the change in the seasons. Plus they get to enjoy the winter sports. I know we don't get no 100 degree weather in the summer but it get's hot enough you need an air conditioner. I run one about a month of the summer. I could not live with heat all year round. We make the best of our season's up here. Actually a few weeks ago we did a winter camp out in the woods instead of staying at the camp. Slept under a tree. I been watching to much tv . It only went down to 0degresF but we enjoyed it. Now when we get snow storm after snow storm you get tired of it real quick but you know it will end .

That is why I steered away from the boat for a bit I spent all summer working on it and winter was coming in fast and I had lot's of other things to do before winter come. I am going to be getting back at the boat real soon. At least working in the house doing upholstery where the temps are good. I should be posting some pics of upholstery work soon. After we get out of our deep freeze or if we get a good week of warmer temps I will heat up the garage and finish the inside of the boat. Then I can flip it. I know I was going to flip it earlier but I was letting the boat decide what I was going to do tomorrow and I don't like to live that way. Then I said to myself It will be done and can't use it in the water until next summer so I got away from it.

I know I would love to have better temps for working in and I know I am not going to pay to heat the shop up everyday just to work on the boat, better temps will come. Keep up the fine job, after playing with the fiberglass a few times you will get it all figured out, looks good so far

Today was a beautiful day for boat work ... 75 degrees and sunny.. Unfortunately, I spent it in the bed... I don't get sick much, but got a serious case of "the crud" ( bronchitis, I think). Hopefully I can get out there again while this great weather lasts.

Happy new year guys. I wish everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous new year, with lots of boats splashed and lots of time on the water!!!

I took my time on "injured reserve" to do a little shopping. While the tractor has come in handy for engine lifts, etc.., its going to be a little unwieldy when I get the alignment/engine mount stage. So, I bought this:



I bought the 2 year replacement plan which basically allows you to bring it back within 2 years if its broken, and you can upgrade to something else and only pay the difference. So, It will come in handy for this little season of my life and may get traded back in later for something else.

I also picked up one of these at Harbor Freight for about 12 bucks. I thought it might come in handy for drilling the angled transom assembly holes when and if I ever get to the point of doing my transom assembly. The Mercruiser part is pricy, and I have seen a couple of folks build a wooden jig (frisco) to keep the hole true to the angle, but I thought this might work just as well and so I threw it in the cart???



I've got some video, but will wait until I get a little more done this weekend before posting again.

Excellent choice on the tools Pat.....I have that same style engine lift, worked great for me although mine is outboard, it will go very high, and the legs fold up for smaller storage space.....the drill attachment looks very cool too! Looking forward to the vids.....get well soon!
