Gotcha Tim!
I just thought of it but I have to do an Impeller replacement. Each season? The one in the engine, believe it or not, is still the original.(I think)

How's life in Carolina? Are you affected in any way by the recent hurricanes?
Alex

Re: merc500 1973

The impeller should be replaced at least every other season just to be on the safe side and a must if it does not pee good at a idle at any time. You would be surprised on how many 30+ year old impellers are still out there. Not a good idea all it takes is about 5 minutes of overheating and it will be all over for a old merc. First thing anyone should do is a impeller replacement if not sure when it was done last!

We have been lucky so far with the hurricanes just rain as of this season. It looks like we may have one real big one(Really Big) that could be on it's way soon lets hope and pray for anyone in it's path. Good Day, Tim

Congratulations to all involved for sticking with this. I have not made any contributions to this discussion because I have had no advice to offer and no experience with this motor, but my hat is off to you all for your perseverance and generousity.

It was particularly good to observe how some communication problems that cropped up early on in the thread gave way to effective teamwork on the problem solving here. It isn't always easy to communicate as clearly as we might like when working through an online medium like this, takes patience and giving each other the benefit of the doubt at times regarding good intentions.

And you should also know that others who read this, like me, have had a good opportunity to learn from the discussion as well. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, Tim Mathis and MercMaster, were the men with experience and patience. It just demonstrates that good things can come from a group activity no matter the distances separating each individual. We also have to thank the Webmaster and host of this site for giving the opportunity for resolving various boating issues.
Thanks to all

Alex
