You would think so. Usually anything that crosses state lines can be a federal charge.

But lots of stuff happens that the feds dont pick up on. But being as this was a legal business maybe they will.

If they did maybe it would be a racketeering-RICO-ongoing criminal enterprise- charge.

I thought I remember reading that the FBI was somehow involved in this whole mess. I'm not sure if that's true and don't have time to look it up right now if anyone wants to help me out and reread the reports.

I'd still like to see just how much actual time they get though, it sounds like probably 5yrs max and probably will only serve 2 with good behavior, then back to business as usual.

Well, hopefully they get treated like proper ladies at least once in prison...that'll probably be all the punishment they need. ;)

This could very well turn into a RICO case but it will take time to set it up, just by looking on the internet these crooks have numerous international complaints but the feds are in absolutely no hurry to set this up since the local authorities have them and have a good case against them so I wouldn't expect anything from the feds until these guys are serving their prison terms for the local counts. Be patient I doubt these crooks are free anytime soon.

This story makes me want to install a surveillance system. I once had a neighbor with video, and it kept one of our pugs from beng swiped.

Glad it worked out.

In the end the camera did not prevent the boat from being stolen and technically it did not help them find it any faster. I am sure it will assist as evidence, but I think a tracking device or locks would have been far more effective. Not to mention a lot cheaper. Now obviously if you live in a really small town and/or happen to recognize the guys on the camera then its a different story.

I'll never know if a few heavy chains and a tongue lock would have made them decide to move on to an easier target. I have a feeling 4 separate heavy chains hooked to the wheels, a tongue lock and a pair of these http://www.trailerlock.com/ would have made them move on to another boat. All of the above combined is still cheaper than just the camera alone.

Also, even the best camera system in the world is next to useless at night unless you have plenty of streetlights around.

I have the trailer hitch lock then the super heavy duty tongue lock on mine but in the end I believe placing my 10' truck slide in camper in front of my boat is the lock I trust most, i also just ordered a sign that looks like a properly used target silhouette that says "nothing inside is worth dying for" to go on the camper.

I can't believe it was actually a marina owner, no wonder why it was so professional.

I told you it was a boatyard way back when you posted the theft originally.

"They are so well versed at towing a boat and familiar with boats that I'd expect it to be located at a boat yard, under cover. "

see!

That's an AWESOME sign & website! I had to order a couple of those before I could post a reply! It's no replacement for real locks & cams & stuff, BUT... If you put out those signs & the word to the neighbors, well.. I've always been impressed by the true power of "word of mouth"!

Weeeellll two of my neighbors and I go shooting prairie dogs regularly, four of my neighbors and I have a community key lock box so we can go into each others homes should we need to, needless to say I have wonderful neighbors and I trust them implicitly so I guess I can say theres nothing to hide! We have the same political signs in our yards, I am very lucky. The only bad part is my next door neighbor has a better pellet gun then I do but I have a bigger tree in my yard so he shoots the crows out of my tree, hes up on me 86 to 55 so far this year, I need to tell him to shoot his own crows.

Why not go ahead and start the legal process to sue him now for the loss of use you suffered and other expenses , At least when he gets out of jail you will have a judgment waiting on him and you can seize any thing he has of value. Try to rub his nose in it if you can.

This whole thread made quite an impression on me. I ordered trailer locks for both of my trailers the very night this thread was started. The trailer locks bolt to the driver's side trailer wheel and the lug nut is protected so you can neither drive off nor just unbolt the wheel and replace it.

Def makes you think about the security you have in place. I'm rethinking everything for sure. But good news that he was caught and they found your boat. Good luck on the rest of it.
