Don't sweat the hate, and I'm glad the insurance company didn't try to weasel some way of screwing you. Looking forward to seeing what you replace it with for sure!

+1, good luck.

Please relax guys. I thought about deleting Exipdia's post, but it is almost civil and there are no violations.
Glad you left it. It was actually funny!

Insurance Company-->>Hey you waxed your boat and made it look too good to a thief so we aren't paying your claim!!!

That was priceless!

Glad to hear you made OK with insurance, I live semi-local too you (St. Pete) so this thread was extra interesting too me. Glad you didn't take offense to the hindsight 20-20 haters. Hopefully one day some low life POS will steal something from one of them and they will have the nutz to post it here so we can all judge them.

You have no idea of what different neighborhoods are all about. There are many places here in VT, NH, Maine and Northern NY where people do not even know where their front door keys are....... the car keys stay in the car.

Please do not be judgmental........ the boat is gone.

You got that right, my boat sits 5' off the road in a side driveway next to my house. I have never locked it nor even felt the need to.

House keys? I don't have any, no lie.

Mike I used to live in St Pete, back when gas was $4/gal they had the nasty habit in St pete of pulling up to your boat and siphoning your gas in about 5 min. 140 gallons of gas was no small loss.

To prevent that from happening to me I removed the end of the hose that leads from the gas cap to the fuel tank and installed a screen on the end then hose clamped it back on. Less than two wks later everyone but me got their gas stolen; some for the second or 3rd time.

What is funny to me is that the people criticizing my choice of where I parked my boat have obviously never been to FL. Real estate in St Pete especially, Tampa, Clearwater, etc is very limited. You can always tell where there is no HOA because the whole street is lined with parked boats due to the fact that their owners have nowhere else to store them. There is a boat less than a block from me for sale right now parked 2' from the street with absolutely no security devices. I wouldn't think anything of it if my boat hadn't recently gotten stolen.

Re: My Boat Was Stolen Yesterday!! Caught On Tape

You have my sympathy for the trauma of having your boat stolen. The lack of interest by the TPD is pretty typical from what I heard from other boat theft victims in other places. Cops just have other priorities.

Chances are they switched the trailer's license plate at the first opportunity.

2 things strike me looking at the video tape.

1.How many dudes are about in Tampa at 9:30 in the morning of August 8 wearing long blue jeans and a dark long sleeved shirt? My guess is a meth head whose body thermostat is off 30 degrees or he has a lot of tatoos to cover up.

2. The guy backing the Ford up did it like he backed up a lot, no miss or do over. The fellow who handled the hitch, took the ladder and checked the lights has been around boats a lot. Both these guys have been around a boat yard, I bet.

When you get your new boat, better put an armed guard on it. They will figure you have insurance and will get another one.

Yeah, that wasn't the first grab they've done. Probably not the last.

It's actually not a political post, if ya think about it.

It's merely information about a man who owns a company from whom some on here may be buying products. And, they may decide to purchase those products elsewhere once they realize where their hard earned money is going.

Okay?
If not, it'll get deleted.
No biggie.

I understand the Progressive agenda, (Geez, I've got the Glenn Beck Insider Forum open in another window). I just don't bring it here to a boating forum.

Glad to hear a good outcome from the insurance company. I've heard more positive than negative lately on the company. Good to hear since USAA farmed the MO boat to Progressive.

When I get my (first and brand new) boat I will insure it with said company for agreed value. If there is a claim, "their hard earned money" will exit their hands and enter our local economy. And I won't feel bad about it ;)
(I hope I am not crossing the fine-line with this post )

Am I allowed to say I don't and won't insure with them?

Yea that's pretty crazy, while looking for a new boat I couldn't believe how many Miami listings there are with boats for sale with just the hull...motors had been stolen. Or recovered boats with extensive damage. I can only imagine how many SS props get stolen.

It does look like this particular ring was in the business of stealing larger boats than mine, and it still took 3yrs to catch them. Ana Maria is a really expensive place to live too, multi million dollar houses there, obviously it can happen anywhere.

It is a bit comical that the cop's best advice for owners who trailer their boats is find a way to hide the boat.

some comical and a bit hard to do with a boat. but still good advise. what the criminals can't see, they don't want to steal.. out of sight, out of mind so to speak. granted it can still happen, but then it's just a fluke (their dumb luck) the criminals stumbled on to something good and worth stealing..

sorry about yer predicament diesel5599. i hope it all works out well in the end for you..

Re: My Boat Was Stolen Yesterday!! Caught On Tape

Glad it worked out for you. As a victim of boat theft myself I heard all the same accusations that were thrown at you. Many by my own insurance company. They did eventually pay for the boat, but it was a little doubtful at times. They made me feel like the criminal. My boat was behind a 6' privacy fence and it did not stop them. My neighbors boat was sitting in an open driveway like it always does at the time. There was just something about mine that they wanted more. More than likely the big Mercury sitting on the back (my neighbor had a smaller boat with an older 90 or 115 on it). Be sure to show us the new one when you so decide.
