Re: My Chieftan project

Very busy day yesterday but a lot accomplished. Fuel system completed, all lines double clamped, mounted, fuel sending wires ran, all lines clamped in position so the lines will not rub and wear anywhere along the hull unlike what I found when I dissected the girl.

Tank switch and fuel/water separator filter.

Side panels all completed and trim attached. Some carpet installed inside the tray area.

Seat boxes constructed and fit in place. Will remove and seal them up then cover with the Nautolex. They are of 3/4" construction so very sturdy. The batteries will be in the rear of each box which has a complete divider in each to keep them completely separate from the fuel tank. Originally planned on an upper box on each to mount the seat on and leave room behind for a small sitting area but that would have required the main box to be much longer and would take up too much space so opted to keep the boxes shorter and go with pedestal mounts for the seats.

Dog house also constructed. It will not be hinged in, will be removable as I hate having it in the way when doing any maintenance on the engine. Also thinking will make a swing up seat on the front of the box with drop down legs for some additional seating. Still in the design phase on that.

Also got the engine completely aligned, tightened and locked down. Got the bow plate mounted, installed the planer mast mount and the bow light. (Didn't get a pic yet). Then started to install the ceiling panels in the cabin but the time was late so that is to be completed.

Looking real WnW, you were real busy. I am of the same belief, hinging the dog house just keeps it in your way, and a real pain in the butt.

Outstanding work WnW! Solid!

+1 on the doghouse; things are already cramped under the rear deck...and we're not as little as we used to be :D

Re: My Chieftan project

Thanks guys. It has been a long and tiring 3 days of solid work but satisfied with the amount of work accomplished. Finally some beautiful weather today and feeling like spring. So now for some more visuals.

The planer mast installed. Nice and tall so will get my Otter Boats a long ways out so my fishing spread will cover a vast amount of water.

The bow plate installed with the new bow light and the mast installed.

Violating the outdrive and engine coupler. All perfectly aligned and ready for the outdrive to be installed.

These are the bracing areas for the seat boxes. Boxes, bracing, and doghouse removed and the epoxy was applied. After they dry will apply the Nautolex.

And got the transom top plate installed today. All tin is now back on the boat and in place. Need to put the rub rail back in and then attach the corner pieces.

Also got most of the headliner installed in the cabin today. Those pics will come when completed later this week. Back to work tomorrow and hoping it will be an easy week.....but don't see that happening.

Bow plate looks awesome, not a big fisherman, so I have no idea what the mast is for, but it looks like it's well done too........

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments and compliments. It's hard to believe it is the same boat. A lot of inspiration was derived from reading post from fellow SC builders on this forum.

Well the planer mast and otter boats are a way to get more lines out in a trolling spread. I usually run 4 downriggers, 2 wire divers, and then can run up to 4 more lines on each side of the boat off the planers providing I have enough people on board. Basically you send the board out on the tether line then attach your fishing line to a release that slides down the tether line. When a fish hits one of these lines it pops free from the tether. This link kinda show you what it look like in action.

Thanks man, the pleasure was all mine to meet you and admire you fleet of tin. Some good conversation with a very personable man with a great passion for his tinnies. Yes that 26' is quite the beast. Although my heart bled profusely when the top was chopped off the 22' Islander conversion after seeing it up close and personal I will have to admit it is a fantastic job and super roomy.

And a big thank you for the new ride for the Chieftain!

Let me know how your fish dinner was.

Yah Glen, all I gave the poor fella was a foot of snow to tromp around in while we were talking about IO's and metal built boats:joyous:

Yup, it was great to meet ya Bill! Hey, I'm thinking the next time I see you I'm betting that one, or both of us, will be at the helm of a NEW floating Starcraft:horn::becky::fish2:

.

Whats the plan on the roller trailer? I got a line on one for my chieftain just almost identical but galvanized..... But before I pull the trigger I hoped to come up with the plan of attack first.
