Re: My first boat. My first rehab

well there was 2 surprises today
1. the colony of bull/carpenter ants
2. After fiddling with the motor it doesnt have a carb. Its a suzuki dt20 02003-704986. Called the seller and he said it didnt come with one.

The transom was solid, all the glass was in excellent condition and tomorrow ill take it and pressure wash it really good

The seller said it didn't come with a carb? How did he use it? :) But seriously it's a great boat. Looks like a fun project. Keep the pics and progress reports coming.

he never used it, he bought it as a fixxer upper and it just sat in his yard. He is a junkyard dog and he had boats everywhere. Code enforcement was making him get rid of stuff so i got this boat for cheapo.

Re: My first boat. My first rehab

going to start sanding tomorrow. I have to get a respirator, golves, and get my shop vac back from my brother. This weekends list of goals is as follows:
1. get complete inside sanded and prepped
2. Remove screws and patch any holes
3. frame out rear bench and fabricate it so the seat will double as a cooler
4. Maybe start sanding the exterior but not sure yet. I might do the outside first and make my way towards the inside

Your motor weighs between 75 and 100 pounds. I would build a stand for it and get it in your garage or living room or to the boat mechanics. Even in great neighborhoods light motors like that get stolen. It will make sanding and flipping the hull a lot easier too. I really like that hull BTW.

Re: My first boat. My first rehab

i sold the motor, i am looking to get something a little more reliable. This motor needed way too much work and parts were too hard to come by.

Anyway, here is the current update. I thought i was going to reuse the front deck and the seat that was in the front. Well it had wood on it....yeah....it was rotted. So out it came. And pressure washed it again. On the front deck bottom side there is drain holes that lead to the opening to the through hull drain to the transom. I stuck the nozzle in there and KACHOW!!!! roaches and more bull ants. They were all over me but luckile i didnt get bit. There was about 100 ants and 25 cockroaches. YUCK!!! anyway here is the current progress pics:
