You all seem to be ignoring an important factor: hull deadrise.

I picked up a 1987 Sylvan with a Yamaha L-4 3.0 last winter (Merc engine) and I have been happy with it. I don't tow and I am not worried about top speed - I am a sightseer and a tourist on the water. At 1400-1600 RPM the GPS says 5 to 7 KPH, hardly leaves a ripple for a wake, purrs along very quietly and it took nearly 4 hours of cruising for the fuel gauge to start bouncing off the FULL peg (on a 24 gallon tank). Just perfect for me.![]()
What is a sig boat?I don't care if I had a sig boat.

What is a sig boat?
Anyone ever read or know anything about the efficiency calc for an engine feul consumption?
I read somewhere that its about 1 gall per hour for every 10 hp.. example..200HP engine = 20 gall per hour at full throttle...
Anyone else know or hear of this and is this a good rule of thumb??
Thanks
I believe it's the Northwestern![]()
What about resale? I'm pretty sure a 4.3 will be more attractive than a 3.0 at resale time. NADA gives you a nice bump in price for having a bigger engine with a n 18' bowrider. As far as gas mileage, been out 2x's and pulled kneeboarders and tubers for two hours each time. I burned a half tank total with my 4.3l merc. The new boat is better than my 93' 3.0l merc 18' I had for last couple of years on gas.
