Hey everyone. I thought I would post up a few pics of my first boat. This is the first boat boat that I have actually owned myself, but I am a fairly avid boater having access to boats at almost any time I would like.
The boat is a 1996 Lund Tyee Magnum 1950 gran sport. I purchased it from a guy who bought it on an insurance auction. He paid so little for it that he was able to turn around and sell it to me for a little profit and I still think I got a good buy. The boat is in really nice shape. I am sure that the pictures dont do it justice, but the paint looks almost new. The hull doesnt have a single dent (other than the transom...see below) The interior carpet isnt stained or ripped. The four air ride seats are all in good condition without any rips. It came with a lowance globalmap color sonar and a bow mount trolling motor. There is also a 9.9 hp 4 stroke kicker with electric start and captains controls. Overall I am completely happy with the condition of the boat.
Now for the bad. The previous owner was cruising across lake of the woods and hit a dead head under the water. It only caught the big motor, but from what i understand it was violent enough to detach the motor from its mounts. Looking at the transom you can tell that there is damage, but it doesnt look nearly that extensive. I am half tempted to put the cap back on and brace the crap out of it, but I am going to do things right because I want to own this boat for a long time.
My plan is to remove all the transom wood and pour in seacast (or arjay 6011 whichever is less costly). Do any of you know if there is a comparable product that is less costly?
So now I am on the search for an outboard to power this monster. I am pretty much decided that I am looking for a 150hp outboard because I think it will offer enough power to make it enjoyable and more hp= more $$. The boat is rated for up to 200hp. I am not trying to do a bare minumum budget build, but I am more focused on value and reliability than anything aesthetic.
Take a look. Tell me I'm crazy for taking on this project! Thanks for your input.
