Also got the first coat of Royal Blue Rusto on the consoles, gunnels, splashwell, and the front seat supports.

I didn't take and pics, but I have also gotten the first coat of Poly Urethane on the deck pieces. I know lots of you on here are using epoxy, but I figure that I am going to cover mine with deck vinyl which should protect it, it will be covered and under cover in the shed most of the time, it is a lot drier down here than most of you deal with, and I'm 61 so if it lasts for 5 or 10 years that will probably take care of my usage and whoever gets it after me can redo the deck if they want to.

Looking good, buddy. I'm with you on the Poly. I'm using Helmsman Spar for the same reason. I have a few years on you and I know it will outlast me. Heck a lot of guys are replacing original 30-49 year old decks at lasted that long with no factory protection. Me - I'm pulling PT. If I'm here in 20 years and re-doing the deck then I'll get mad at myself. LOL

We don't just recycle beer cans. Nice new winch handle. ;)

Feel like I made some real progress this weekend, even though I had several honey dews to get done first. Finished the paint stripping on the hull, final sanded it and got a coat of primer on it. I also got the rest of the motor painted and the first of the decals on the hood. Pics to follow hopefully tomorrow. :)

Got the motor painted and the decals on the hood. I think they look great. Now just have to hope that the motor will run as well as it looks. :D

Looking really good, if that motor runs as good as it looks you will be way ahead of the game.

Got the hull painted this weekend. HOWEVER, swmbo has informed me that I made a mistake painting it semi-gloss and so will be putting more coats of gloss on sometime this week. Heres the pics of how it looks now.

The controls were looking pretty shoddy, so I decided to repaint them also.

Nothing shoddy about it now! Nice work so far.

Thanks Truck Driver. Went back and looked at your thread, remembered that I had read it before as I remembered the bar clamps. Have you had an opportunity to work on either of your boats?

Tried to post this yesterday, but didn't work for some reason. Got the motor running.

I used rustoleum professional, with hardener I got at tractor supply. Got a high volume low pressure paint sprayer at harbor freight that worked really well. Had never used one, but practiced a little and it really was pretty easy.

Wood, went and looked at your thread on the Flamingo. Hadn't looked at it before since its a "glasser". And I didn't want the starmada coming after me. I have to say she is a beautiful boat and you did a fabulous job on her.

Thanks, I thought it looked like Rusto' paint but was not sure. How did you prep her for paint?

Stripped her with a combination of citristrip (to start out with) and then rustoleum aircraft remover. Finished up with 220 and then 400 grit sand paper. Wash down with dish soap and the power washer and then acetone before painting.

Great job on the boat dad! Looks like it's coming along quiet nicely and way on it's way to looking like grandma's and grandpa's. Your granddaughter & I are ready to go fishing! With all this rain lately there should be some water in the lakes! LOL :)

Ya those clamps still make me shake my head and laugh. I got the Jet back seaworthy and ran it with some engine problems. Hopefully I have it straightened out but I was only able to ramp test it before I mothballed it for the winter. The big boat I should be getting back on with in the next month.

Re: My new/old 1971 Starcraft SS

Managed to get some time in on the boat today. Finished prepping and priming the interior of the boat for painting. Also sprayed bedliner in the pocket area. Hard to tell from the pictures, but I think it came out pretty nice. Here is what the pocket area looked like originally.

Boat5.jpg

I had the same problem a lot of other folks on here have had - lots of glue where there had been vinyl at one time. Tried a lot of different things to get it off, without a lot of luck. Decide to try aircraft stripper today, since it works so well on the paint, figured it couldn't hurt. It did a really good job of loosening the glue so I could scrape it off. Here's what the pockets looked like after using the stripper.

And here is what they look like sprayed with bedliner.

Not too interesting, but here is the interior after priming.

Tomorrow - hopefully putting gluvit down in the interior and finishing varnishing the decking.
