Re: Nascar...

You beat me to it. I just was going to start a thread.....

I'm not sure what to think about it. In a way, Hamlin's comments is like biting the hand the feeds ya....... Although, the Mayor wasn't exactly happy for the fine... I hope 'Vegas is a better race, but, I'm not going to hold my breath......

NASCAR has never been a democracy, it has always been a dictatorship. Assimilation is just easier for some drivers than others! Being honest with you, I don't really think Denny's comment was bad at all, it was honest and these same types of statements have been made every single time they have changed cars, it takes time to figure them out.

You're right, I love racing but more and more find better things to do on Sunday. Especially with the silly BS they do on tv.

Re: Nascar...

Not a Hamlin fan either, but his comments were how he felt, and not over the top, IMHO. At most they deserved a reprimand, but the fine was pretty much a slap in the face. Not sure if his present tact is a good one or not, but trying to put myself in his shoes, I might do the same, even if it cost me my job.

Just seems way to heavy handed of NASCAR to me ...

Re: Nascar...

That's the main topic on Sirius today. One reason, because it's raining in 'Vegas. No track time yet... Even the shows hosts from Tradin' Paint agree that NASCAR went a little too far.

Re: Nascar...

What Hamlin said - “I don't want to be the pessimist, but it did not race as good as our Generation-5 cars, this is more like what the Generation-5 was at the beginning. The teams hadn't figured out how to get the aero balance right. Right now, you just run single-file and you cannot get around the guy in front of you.”

What NASCAR said - “Following the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event last Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, Denny Hamlin made some disparaging remarks about the on-track racing that had taken place that afternoon. While NASCAR gives its competitors ample leeway in voicing their opinions when it comes to a wide range of aspects about the sport, the sanctioning body will not tolerate publicly made comments by its drivers that denigrate the racing product.”

Is NASCAR on the same planet?

Re: Nascar...

I can see it now in Victory Lane and the interviews after the race.

Thanks to all at (team name) and my crew. And thanks to (list sponsors). Answer to every question about the race the answer being "No Comment"

Every driver getting out of their car as a TV person asks a question, the drivers answer, they thank their team and sponsors then say "No Comment".

And what happens if nascar suspends Hamlin, and all the other drivers follow?

nascar should be fined a million $$$$$$$$$ for acting like a bunch of little babies throwing a tantrum because someone said something they didn't like..

It is amazing now that David Allen, who used to work for NASCAR, who is now with Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, both of those organizations are starting to sound like one in the same!

I read about how much these guys get paid. Many of them are up there in the Millions of dollars annually. Many adding endorsement pay to that. I think I would make it a point to know the bosses rules and follow them--right/wrong or whatever LOL. Just google how much money they make. With all the people who are unemployed or making minimum wage.............

Re: Nascar...

Sure they make a lot of money, they are entertainers. Look what the top movie stars make - per movie. Along with NFL and MLB players. You have to remember that the owners in all sports aren't having their arms twisted to pay these ridiculous amounts. And "No Comment" regarding Arthur Blank and his new soon to be stadium in Atlanta.

Sorry, got off topic.

I am not saying they don't deserve it, but I sure would follow the rules of those that made it possible. I guess after you get your bank account full, you think you are above the rules. True, many of these drivers could just retire. Dale makes over 20 million for example. The Sponsors and the Fans make all that money possible..along with NASCAR. NFL players and coaches can't bash the refs

I think that's the point. Very hard to say he broke any rules ;) I am with Don on this, I am not sure why this makes me so mad, but I think the Drivers should all head to the trailer and sit there until NASCAR rescinds it. I HATE strikes, and it is one of the reasons I like NASCAR: No unions, all independent contractors. BUT, the drivers have to be able to talk. Maybe a little discussion was warranted, a reminder that we don't beat up the product. But a flippin' fine and public discussion? Who ultimately hurt NASCAR in this situation? Certainly not Hamlin. Grrrrr!

nascar hurt nascar. I can't even find the interview on video now, they probably got them all removed. But Hamlin did not say anything bad, just gave a polite opinion of how the cars were in Phoenix.

I am not a big Hamlin fan, but he did nothing wrong, he is one of the 43 that is out there driving the cars, week after week and he should have the ability to render his opinion on those cars.

I gave up on NASCAR some time ago. Stuff like this makes me think I made the right choice, I wonder what Dale would of said, I am sure it would of been worth a fine.

EXACTLY

His comments certainly seemed to me like they were within the bounds of expressing a personal opinion. And who gets the money from the fine? I hear it goes into the points fund, then redistributed - so some get a portion of their money back. But I also hear it goes to charities. I think that would be one interesting paper trail. :greedy_dollars:
