happy thenks giving to you as well jon.

i just started to read up on glassing in colder temps......

hit it with a quarts halogen light.....warm up the sub straight....keep the resin and glass warm in your house.....mix it in your house......run it outside....and glass it up....

keep the heat on it (the light) for several hours. glass gets its stiffness form the post cure......when the temps coming off the back end of the chemical cure are lowering.....it the temps are kept up......it will be stronger.

Thanks guys for the response ....... It is going to be in the low 60's tomorrow so I think I will let the boat sit in the sun for a few hours to warm it up and then go ahead and glass it. I do like the idea of the halogen lights. I will have to build a tent like Woody said and put the lights in it to warm it up next time the temp drops.

I was able to glass the cap today but it never got into the 60's like they said it would ( I don't think they are ever right ... lol ) so I built a tent around the area, just as Woody said, and heated the cap with the halogen lights and then glassed it and put a small heater in to keep it warm and it worked like a charm ...... thanks guys.

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics

Started gathering up all the old pink foam that I had used for templates and other things and placed it between the stringers so I can finally install the sole. As I was looking at it I started wondering how would the water make it to the bilge box with all this foam lying across the ribs. I am thinking I need to make a pathway or something to allow any water to drain. I thought about cutting a piece of PVC pipe in half lengthwise and placing it open part down which should leave a void for the water to drain thru.

Do you think this will work or does anyone have any other suggestions?

That will work but I think the water IF there is any will be able to find it's way to the bilge when you tilt the boat from the bow.

I put the sole in today and closed in the bow area but I am not sure if this will work. Up in the bow under the deck I put in a box with 2 doors, one will have the fuse block in it and the other side will have an amp and power source for the radio and also where the horn will be mounted. The question that I have is how much is the hull going to flex and is it bad that the sole is kinda tied in to the cap?

I may just leave the part that meets the cap open and not tied in at the top only tied into the hull and sole. Is this going to create a problem? This is only a 13' boat with a Merc 9.8.

Thanks guys .... I am far from a pro at any of this but I don't think it came out bad.

Cut 4 1/2" off of the seat base today and I think they fit much better. Sort of have them in position in the photo and I think they will be Ok. I was worried that they may have been to big.

This is what I had to cut off:

The seats look good. They look better than the other pics you did with them higher.
You should be able to sit in them easily.
Keep up with the good work. (PRO) :D

Finished the access port for the under sole wiring. I placed a 1 1/4" pvc pipe, with two pull strings inside, under the sole going from bow to stern. I will be able to run any kind of wiring needed for lights or gauges or whatever. Also under there is the 1" pvc pipe that was cut in half lenghtwise and placed under the pink foam to allow any water to get from the bow to the bilge area freely. I have a 4" threaded coupling that I cut to size and installed in the sole which will allow access to the pvc for whatever reasons and can be plugged to keep out the water.

Hello Jon,
Just got caught up on your thread. Really great looking boat and you have done a very nice job restoring it to better than new condition.
I have seen some good tips and ideas that will come in very handy when I finally start my reconstruction. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Thanks Woody,fst and GT .........
I started boxing in the ribs on the side with ply that I attached to the rail, above the ribs, with stainless steel screws. I am going to tie in the side pieces to the sole with PB and then tab it in with 1708 and that will be one more hurdle cleared.

A question, are you applying any type of sealant to the screws before attaching the ply pieces?
