gad ! that means pulling the genny....(with out seeing the pics.....compairing it by memory from stuff i have worked on)

if you could block the ply from underneath the genny.....then cut out the wood....the problem is to attach the ply properly to the partial board the genny sits on....(then glassing and gellcoating that).

sounds simple.....but sometimes the cramped spaces don't make simple fixes simple......lol

Let's see if this works......

I tore out the rotted wood and it is very much local, just under the battery. Wish I had my camera. I'm going to replace it with starboard, I just don't see the need to go thru replacing it with wood and fiberglass. I'm hoping my glass days are over with.

Trying to clean up the mess caused by the battery acid/gas. Currently using Woody Wax to clean up the tarnish. I've used for many purposes and it seems to work well for this application. I really don't want anything caustic or water based if not necessary. I figure 2 days soaking with this stuff will do the job I desire. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!



A look at SS hose clamps that were replaced some 4 months ago. What a mess!

Not sure what Woody Wax is. In the automotive world we use baking soda and a little water. I know you said no water but what about baking soda and then Woody Wax? You could always put a fan down there to dry up the little water involved.

If the Woody Wax dosen't work I may have to resort to your idea, Swabbie. I have never liked using anything water based on engines or anything electrical, but may have to.

Woody Wax and baking soda?........hmmmmmm!

Never an easy job, is it? I had the same rot problem to the board that was under my batteries, but mine came from the fact that the genset sea strainer was mounted to it and every time you opened it, water spilled out. I replaced it with a 5/8" piece of starboard. Perfect repair without any future worries.

That's what I'm going to do, Fireman. I have the (hot) water heater temporarly sitting there to make access to the A/C units easier. I'm still waiting to get the A/C's repaired. I can't get anybody to show up. What is it about South Florida where I can't get anybody to work?

Back at it again!

The bossman was in an auto accident a couple weeks ago. A few broken bones, including his neck. He is in his 80's and one tough cookie. I have confidence he will be fine. I miss him.

I removed all 5 A/C units for repair. After I had to fire 4 reparmen, I found me a good one.

Overcharging the generator battery has caused me all kinds of grief. All hose clamps in the generator room needed replaced. Located in the room is all the A/C units, generator, freshwater pump, head pumps, holding tank, water heater, and a boat load of plumbing.

I'm replacing all the A/C units$$$ I had these things looking good at one time.

That is some nasty looking stuff you have in those pictures. Are you going to be able to save those parts or are they so bad that they will have to be replaced. That corrosion looks heavy, I know pictures do that sometimes so may look worse than it is.

That is some nasty looking stuff you have in those pictures. Are you going to be able to save those parts or are they so bad that they will have to be replaced. That corrosion looks heavy, I know pictures do that sometimes so may look worse than it is.

You do have a thought. Maybe I should strip them of some useful parts.

I also have some water leaking from the flybridge that just recently appeared. I was sleeping on the salon sofa the other night and a downpour developed on my forehead. I did rebead some screws on the bridge a few weeks ago, guess I have more to go.

Today I'm polishing the interior wood.......which is about everything but furniture.

Another problem.....

There wasn't much wind the other evening. I was sitting in the cockpit doing some paperwork. Had the screen doors closed to keep the skeeters out, something I haven't done yet. I walked thru the screen door twice. The door popped out of it's track and cut the curtain backing. :facepalm:

Any ideas on repair, short of removing the curtain and replacing the backing. I guess I better pay for this out of my pocket

when you are talking about owners of boats that big bud.....i would say replace....a repair of any kind will be noticed.

you could use a seam ripper and remove the ripped liner and re stitch a new curtain backing in to the drapes....but that is a time vs money thing...

one trick i learned on the house boat....is to put tape in the screen door.......however.....a logo with the name of the boat would make the owners proud.

Ye...oops! I now agree that any patch I try will look cheap and cheesey. I don't think I will run into the screen again, but I might as well follow your advice on the blue tape while the owners are away

Yup..oops! idea is a good one! Yes, having met Fireman.....he is the man!

This is a shot of both curtains drawn. The one on the left is the torn one. !

Here I have the right curtain drawn all the way to the couch.

I got in late from work last night and got thinking. The damaged curtain dim-out is bad on only the first few feet. I could easily have the damaged curtain shortened up a little and keep the dim-out I have. I think it may even look better.

What do you think?
