Re: New Look

Its been a few weeks, and I still haven't warmed up to the new layout, organization and color scheme. But fear not, iboats users, its not iboats fault. vBulletin? is taking a pounding across the board at all the other message forums I belong to. Seems that most people are not happy with the re-organization of features and functions, and the color schemes just make people puke. So there it is. The VBB people just screwed up. So don't be surprised if they release another version soon that fixes all this crap. Just keep your fingers crossed.

One forum took so much grief at the changes that the board owners put back the old version. It appears the the choices available to the web master in the latest release are not all that popular.

Re: New Look

It's my opinion that a lot of people are fearful of change. The way I look at it, if the tool isn't working, find a different tool. I think the tool "iBoats vBulletin Forum" is working fine. That's not to say the tool couldn't work better but at the end of the day, if I have a question about propwash ...the current tool in place will allow me to get my answer. :D

If vBulletin has been receiving tons of complaints and it's effecting there advertising dollars, they will wise-up and listen to the userbase.

You get what you pay for...and when it's free how can you complain.

The My Replies section no longer exits, it's gone, not coming back. Deal with it.
if you want to keep track of your replies, subscribe to the post. Which is done automatically unless you stop it.

Re: New Look

no, it is not automatic, you have to go into your optons and make it automatic.

as of right now i am only subscribed to 3 threads. because i just changed the option.

But doing an advanced search for posts made by me (the manual way to do "my replies") does nto work either. It only has posts from more than a year ago.

It's automatic unless you changed it before . . . ;)

Don't do that . . . Just click your user ID or "My Profile". Click "Find all posts". Done :)

Re: New Look

So at this point can we assume that the horizontal picture scrolling "problem" is going to stay? In my resto thread, I intentionally made wider pictures, being guided by what was then the available width, so they would show more detail. As I stumble through my project, I'm hoping that the record of it might help somebody in the future who knew as little as I did. If they have to screw around with scrolling side to side to see the photos, I doubt they'll bother reading it. It woud be a major pain for me to go back and edit all my photos to max. 640 wide.

Is that the alternative?

EDIT: This seems to only be a problem using Firefox. In IE, using the most magnified setting View>Text Size>Largest, it seems to be OK.

If your monitor settings are set at 1280X1024 for the screen resolution then there is no scrolling for the photos. Myself and a few others are using that resolution and the forum appears fine. There is no photo scrolling and everything fits fine.

1280x1024 is no good for me, the font is WAYYY too small to read comfortably. I'll have to use IE for this site. It must be a Firefox-forum compatibility problem.

Re: New Look

This is a suggestion, not a complaint. (and a repeat of a suggestion to boot)

If the tech guys put the user avatar and stat panel "ABOVE" the post instead of to the left it would make the area to view the post wider. I know it can be done with this version of the software because I have seen it on other sites.

I know I'm not the guy who sets policy for Iboats but I really hope someone considers this suggestion as it will really improve users with lower resolution screens be able to enjoy the site again. I just used the zoom in feature to see what others are complaining about and it really is quite bad viewing the site with lower resolutions.

Re: New Look

check out thetruckersreport.com
this forum uses the old format that iboats did.
So Vbuliten did not change this for everyone.

It's only changed if you elected to upgrade. It is not some sort of requirement . . .

Re: New Look

You lost me on this one. What are you referring to?
iBoats elected to change to a different version of vbulletin. Not every forum that uses vbulletin will necessarilly want or feel the need to upgrade. Up to the site owner.

I don't mind the new version at all. Sure are a lot of complainers around here.

Re: New Look

I just wanted to say that I'm sticking with iboats no matter what the board looks like. I'm not opposed to change at all and have got used to the new look. The only issue I have is not being able to see pictures in threads in their entirety. I have to scroll over quite a bit and can't see the picture as a whole anymore like I could with the old format. Other than that I have no problem with the change. Keep doing the good work!!
