Re: Iboats format change!

Change is good... as long as the "change" actually improves something. I've been playing around and trying to get used to it with my Droid and my laptop... and its not too bad (if you wear sunglasses)... but I don't see much improvement... it just seems more difficult to navigate.

If the "powers that be" at iboats wants to improve something (and possibly draw in more customers), fix the slow page loading issues! The absolute worst thing is trying to use iboats quickly... its like using dial up again. That's my constructive criticism....

How long have you had the "slow loading" problem? This site has always been fast for me..... I wonder how many other have the issue?

Since April 08 when I joined. It seems like once a week somebody complains, and so far I think the best answer is to use Firefox to help with the speed.... but I like IE.

Re: Iboats format change!

OK, I'm posting this using IE8 and it seems to be just as fast as Chrome and Firefox. Weird. Could be something with the ISP. That would be a hard one to fix. I am running this on a fast dual core XP machine with 3 gigs of memory so I may not notice any bit of difference.
Try this:
Open up a command window and type: ping forums.iboats.com

Re: New Look

I didn't like the change at first, but I'm starting to get used to it. One thing I liked about the old format, when you made a post, the thread would pop up next time you were on if someone else posted on it. Now it seems like you have to subscribe to threads for that to happen......which is great, except when I post something and forget to subscribe!

I like the new look. Seems to be more features or at least features I was missing are more accessible. I like the archive of photos it gives you now...I didn't know that existed before. It has a tag cloud which can be useful if people use them. I like the Go Advanced. I haven't checked out the control panel but I'm sure it's nice.

Re: New Look

Actually that is a pretty easy thing to do in your browser, normally in all browsers, it is an option under the view tab at the top of the page, in firefox, just click>view>zoom>zoom in or zoom out..

Please tell me how to do it on my iPod? When you Zoom on the iPod it workes like a telescope and you have to scroll around to read like you would move a parascope around. I simply want the text larger. Better yet make the forum work with Tapatalk!

Re: New Look

The issue with the manufacturer forums has been corrected.
Yes, it has!

A few years ago, the Car Talk forum changed software to something that made navigation a total disaster. I was the fourth highest poster on the site prior to the change, but I gave up and walked away when complaints from many of us about the site navigation fell on deaf ears.

The upgrade here has left us with a fully navigable site, so you'll hear no complaints from me!:)

Re: New Look

this is the third or forth time i've seen iboats change the forum layout.
this has been the smoothest change to the other times. + it's not a drastic change and everything works very similar to last time.
so.

the change is fine with me. only difference i really note is that it now fits my wide screen monitor.
maybe we can post up larger pics of our boats now?

I promise I will ask about it. Large pictures increase the "server load" and in the past it has added to the problems....... it will not hurt to ask.

Try this until the problem gets sorted out.
Once you type your message, copy it to your clipboard, then hit the post button. If it fails to post, open the thread up, paste your reply in and hit post.
No more retyping.

Re: New Look

Picture clarification................. Stick with the smaller photo and it will not scroll but the larger is necessary to scroll

Use the 640 x 480 photo size and it does not screw up the forum............

This is a 640 x 480

This is 2560 x 1920

Re: New Look

Now with the above stated about the photos......... Monitor resolutions make a huge difference in what you see. I have my home monitor set to 1280 x 1024 which gives me the best of everything. If I set to any less resolution I do have problems viewing text and photos to where it is frustrating.

My personal testing has also told me the following.

Mozilla Firefox AND Google Chrome give the absolute best response for viewing this forum. Chrome appears to be a touch faster than Firefox. These are both FREE PROGRAMS!!!

IE Internet Explorer is the WORST. Graphics tend to overlap and things do not work right.

Even the Moderator Staff along with myself do NOT like the new emoticons :confused::eek::cool::rolleyes::p BLAH!
