Re: New owner 21 ft 74 Starcraft aluminum runabout jet
I'm blessed with several deep water lakes close by. But this is a one of a kind. There used to be 30+ pound Kamloop trout in it, when I was a kid. I know of a couple guys who have fished 600 feet or so they've said. None has caught anything. Priest Lake, about 45 miles away has the best Lake Trout up here. I usually jig for them on bottom. They are usually on a ledge about 200 to 250 feet. Biggest one I've caught is just over 10 lbs, but they've caught some trophy ones out of there. Pend Oreille has had a bounty on Lake trout for the last few years, with no limit, and year round. They're trying to ge the kokanee reestablished. I've never really fished Cour D Alene Lake (I probably misspelled that). It's about 50 miles away, and the smallest of the three. There used to be some Chinook (I think) Salmon in there. I go to Koocanusa in Montana a lot, about 120 miles away, 90 some miles long, goes into Canada. It's overpopulated with Kokanee so the let you catch 50 a day and 100 in possession. You usually can limit too in a weekend. I usually get a special permit for Bull Trout there, it's one of the few places you can fish for them. I don't think I could throw even a 5 pounder back, so better safe than sorry. They also have Ling Cod in there, and a lot of nice Rainbows. As I say, I'm sort of spoiled, but blessed. And Then There's Flathead Lake in Montana about 200 miles away. Or I could go the other way to Lake Roosevelt in Washington State. Been meaning to go over there. These small lakes and rivers in the midwest where I am now, just don't look like much to me. I'm excluding the Great Lakes, Mississippi, and Missouri rivers. Not trying to put any are down, but just not what I'm used to.
