Yes - you're right! That was the other C4 I owned. I forgot it was the '89 that was the skip-shift. Damn, I'm getting old when I forget minor details like that!

I got a 6 speed and it does get a bit indecisive in the twisty hills , I just paddle it down to 4th ( or whatev ) and unless the revs get to high (red line ) or low it stays there ............until I go back to D ........even if that takes untill the passenger seat unwanted information/ complaint /opinion thing reminds me

Sounds like a 6 speed auto if you have paddles. Do you have a clutch pedal?

The way skip shift works, I You're rolling into a light and downshift to first with the clutch in, if the light changes and you want to put it into second because you are rolling faster than first warrants, it locks you out of second and you can only shift to fourth gear.

Lol. All good. I have an 84 4+3 which is why I was curious. I know those changed every MY but was unaware of the skip shift. (Explains why!)

I deleted my 2008 but
"Currently" there are laws on the books which would keep you from ever selling it to anyone other than person to person, unless your willing to take the chance in court

The last I heard it was a $10,000 fine for a shop that was caught removing a DEF system. Might be kind of hard finding one to do it. I own a saws-all and a welder but the computer must be dealt with too.

Person to person sell nets more money anyway. Having the DEF system deleted would increase the value for such a sale. Just have to be willing to wait for a buyer.

I think newer 6 speed transmissions are very good.

Mine was rebuilt 3 times by GM. Google JMBX torque converter failures on the 6L80e/6L90e. You will find thousands of stories about failures

The torque converter failed, filling the transmission with glitter fairy dust

You can't remove 33% of a torque converter material, not do enough testing and not have issues associated with hydraulic deformation

The 8 speed that followed was worse and included a class action suit. The newer 10 speed is better, but is having issues and multiple TSB/recalls

The 4L60/4L60e was a much better transmission

A modern hydraulic transmission can do it all. And does it in the largest trucks.
Gear shifters are always unhappy. WAAAA WAAA Want more gear ratios. I will not stop complaining.

Yes its an auto I think it may be a U160L , not sure now . Paddles are so slow that your better off just leaving it in D . Fits behind a 2GR-fe Toyota V6 FWD if that helps
As for the skip shift ......... why . That seems berserk to me . I wonder how many crashes or shat pants that causes .

The 10 speed GM uses is pretty good. The ford version (have both) is god awful.

The 6 speed is an odd occurrence because I've had early and late models (gmt900 and 2k) and you'd think they're completely different models.

The 4l60e sucks but I admittedly have never killed one. I've cooked a few 4l80s which blows people's minds when I tell them.

I have the 8 speed and its been the best driving slushbox transmission of all the GMs I've had. 10 speed included. Mine was post fluid update.

10 speed auto seems to much unless the torque band is pitiful. When I 1st got the 6 speed I sorta thought that was to many but I do like it now . My other car 2003 Rav4 has only 3 speed and overdrive and it really needs a couple more . My old car was a 350 sbc with a powerglide (2 speed ) and that was a damn good tow car .....towed my boat and Hilly's van and his boat the last 50km to Te anau .......over the Blackmount hills

GM hasn’t had a solid automatic RWD trans since the TH400, 4L60E is garbage, 4L80E is less garbage. the 6 and 8 speeds are hot garbage with torque converter and a couple other issues. 10 speeds like to exchange reverse for an extra neutral. The Ford 10 speed comes from the same design as the GM but has a few different parts and the logic that is used is entirely different
