im up im up!! im also kinda broke which is why I have not updated in a while, the only things I have done as of late is taken everything off of the cap to sand down and throw a few coats of paint on it. No paint yet, I have a lot of sanding to do still.

Its crunch time for me in June w/ car registration amungst other bills, but I havent quit, oh no..i will not quit

i got mine on the water =D

pretty awesome little boat.

I've got to tune the carb though, couldnt get it to open up. but other than that, it planed out pretty well just took a minute even with my deck up front.

we were also moving pretty slow, so that takes into effect too.

When i was broke, i would just go out and look at it, think.. and pittle..haha

Hey, don't worry about it. I finally got around to getting stuff done on my boat. The cost of the grinder and flap disks, tyvek suit, etc were enough of an upfront cost, but it got me going for a while.

progress is progress, even if all you are doing is sanding the hull in preparation for paint. I got my boat years ago.

Took boat to the bone.... now coming back together slowly but surely!

After some financially strapped few months, I was able to get some more work done on the boat. During the strapped times, I took and sanded down and removed all of the metal from the cap in order to get it ready for paint, also grinded down a few areas that are needed to make the cap fit back on properly.

Today I painted down some resin on the wood pieces that I recently cut, and threw the lateral into the bow, using some glass filler to bond to the bow side of the wood to the preexisting fiberglass. The other pieces of wood that I cut were the inner pieces to the floatation foam areas in the stern. They cannot go in until I have the rear part of the deck in. STRINGERS NEXT!!! Woo hoo! Getting there!

I also fired up the motor again because I knew there was something up w/ the cooling, as the motor wasn?t ?peeing? the last time I fired it up. Again this time there was only a drizzle from the pee hole, something was up. Not pumping? Hrmm.. So I started investigating. First thing I did was pull off the tube going from the motor to the output/pee hole(detached from motor side) and I tried to blow through the tube? imagine that, my face turned red and nothing was coming out! I pulled off the tube to find some build up in the output side of the tube. Stuck it to the hose and it spat right out? guess what! My engine now pees! Woo hoo! hehe.

our boats are a little different i think.

but i didnt do enough glass on my transom and broke it out on the lake on memorial day.

back to square 1.

Are you serious? I thought you didnt have a problem w/ the transom! Wow, you have any pictures? Looks like ill be doing a little *extra* reinforcement to ensure she stays together. Have any pics of the damage? I am curious to see where the break was so I know where to put a lil extra love.

yeah, it re-broke in both corners and in the middle.. basicly, the 2x8 thats in the back, was going to totally break off. luckily we saved it.

its about that bad on the other side. too The reason it broke, was the wood wasnt fiberglassed to the side, or the plywood thing at the bottom. so the top as just a piece of its own.

Today we finally got into it and we are going to totally re-do the little L bracket that the wood fits into.
were going to put one layer of plywood down, and fiberglass it to the back, and the sides. and the bottom then another piece on top of it, fiberglass it all togeather.. then it should be alright.

ahh yes, unity is key when bonding the wood to the transom. I used a fiberglass strand filler to set the wood to the transom, then I squeezed it into all of the gaps in the corners and what not. I have not tackled the actual fiberglassing just yet as I have more wood to add and I want to do all the glass in the same project rather than pieces here and there. Make sure to put a little extra where your joints meet up to get good strength to those corners.

Ill hopefully be doing the stringers in the next few weeks, then its on to the glass!

- hope you get your transom repaired in time for the fall fishing season. Thats a bummer. thanks for sharing your photos!

Ouch...those corners are going to be tricky, but if you clean them up, I'd throw some roving in the corners if I could make the bend with it. At least it's fixable...not the end of the world...just gotta be a little disappointing.

it is pretty dissapointing, after doing the exact same thing, once before. but, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and the tunnels pretty short.

We'll be on the water sometime around the 4th maybe.

Today were going to start glassing and should have it totally done in a few days here

Well today we got alot of progress..

we bored 6 holes and its stronger than it was when i was done before.



its pretty awesome when your dads job is to coordinate work on projects at his workplace.. so he called up one of his work contractors, and they made him two plates.

We've got two pieces of plywood that will be fiberglassed togeather, i dont remember the size though.

As it sits right now, with the 6 bolts through the transom i can hang on it, and it dosent move anywhere near as much as it did before, when i was done. Tommorrow were going to lay a layer of fiberglass over the existing fiberglass to form the corners, and then were going to clamp everything togeather and bolt it in, so hopefully, it'll make the 1st board stick in its positon

then we'll put fiberglass over the back and the 1st board and clamp it all back in place, then bolt it back.

then 3rdly were going to fiberglass over the back and the 2 boards. and then that layer will be contoured to the sides and make the back a big single piece. then the top will be slid back into place and then the whole back end will be re-formed to fit everything. It wont be painted, but i'll be lake bound. and this time, its got to rip off the back end of the boat to come off.

Yup, you jacked my thread alright It really doesnt bother me. I have a word document I update as I go, which will go on my website when the boat is done.

I see you decided to go w/ a full transom rather than the two piece solution that was originally there.

When I pulled mine apart, the cap was glassed to the 2x6 on top. I will be bonding that together with the strand fillet, as I beleive there was a lot of strengh that came from it. Not to mention the corners ;-).

Also looks like you didnt put the side foam compartments back either? How well does she float w/ out the foam in the rear?

You jacked my thread, so now ill hit you w/ questions lol. If the deck is coming up anytime soon, pull one of the long stringers out and trace it, then send me a template :-D Cutting will be good times (not).

Good to see you got right on it and put her back. Use some fillet in the gabs, and some tape on the corners to get a concave corner instead of a 90 degree. You will get more strength out of it from what i know.

When she's back on the water send a pic. ( and e-mail me again, i lost ur e-mail address)

and i doubt that deck will come out .but you cut all the glass off, so you can custom your new floor.

i left the lower plywood piece, but the new transom, the bottom layer is cut around around the plywood, and is the same thickness so the top layer goes over the top of two layers. the top to bottom of the new wood is 12"
it'll all be glassed over and togeather.

yeah i kept the foam in the back.

i had to cut out a small hand full of it. i havent replaced the wood in it though, and its partially rotten, but i'm planning on going back later, and replacing it.

its a work in progress boat, were just trying to get on the water for now.

Going to keep being a busy week, going to keep it short and sweet.

Stringers are cut and ready. Need to lay up a coat of resin on them, and then set them in w/ some fillet/peanut butter. After that its glass time for all peices that I have replaced. (all wood replaced in this boat.)

Thanks! Finally got them set in some peanut butter... Kinda strange because that stuff hardens like a rock :-/ Started glassing in from the stern to the bow. Coming together, all the wood is in, just gotta get it glassed in, patch a few holes (the ones from the steering pulleys), and 2 on the bottom and im good for a float test before putting the deck down

goodie goodie.

we got the first piece of wood totally fiberglassed in, and the second one has the corners glassed in over it, and the outside.
all thats left, is glassing the middle part, and covering all of that with a good coat of glass, then we've gotta custom that back part.
I'm glad we got it comming togeather.

With what we've got glassed, i can put my feet on the drain hole, and hang on the transom without any cracks, pops budging or anything. This plans working pretty well. Now i wanna paint it, because its not ever comming out again.

Still ongoing on my project, the stringers are set and I have started glassing them in, however I am a bit unsure to how many layers of fiberglass I need. At the moment the only fiberglass I have is a long roll of 3/4 oz. I have added 4 layers so far. I am assuming that regardless of the oz of mat I am using, it should equal the same thickness if not more than the orignal right? Any help is appreciated here.

I have added 7 layers in the corners where the transom meets the sides of the boat, I sat on the transom and bounced my weight on it (only 130lbs lol) and didnt hear anything, no real movement at all. When the cap is put on, there will be added strength there as well.

How many layers of mat (3/4oz) on stringers is my big question. If there is no real answer, im going to use 5 layers of 3/4 oz ( I already had a ton of it), and will hope from there.

Once this is done, I need to rebuild my gate so I can get the boat in and out of the back yard... good ol waiting periods! After I float test to make sure there isnt any leaks, then ill put that deck down and go for the gold! So far so good, if anything, its way the heck better than original (no stringers at all, all wood was rotton, and the motor still hung on the rear of this thing

SO yah, i could go on and on, so if anyone has an answer to the "how many layers f 3/4 mat on the stringers" question, i would so much appreciate it!
