Ayuh,... 1st off,... I don't know that motor real well,...

That said,...
You need to find an oil pressure port in the block,+ get a switch for say 4psi or so,+ run the igntion power thru it...
Hopefully on that starter there'll be 1 of the small studs that's Powered when the starter engages,...
That's where you'll run from to the fuelpump for start-up purposes,...
Let go the Key,+ it'll draw power thru the Switch you put in...

Ayuh,... It says for marine pleasurecraft use in the 1st paragraph of that link you posted...

It shouldn't take much to do a much nicer, cleaner installation that what's in those pictures,.....

How about a cannister fuel filter,..??

I agree, looks like a inline filter there next to pump or a anti syphon? It didn't say what pressure it is. It said not in engine compartment (where it is now) and recomends a Mr Gasket regulator. Wher could i mount it? I have a merc spin on canister water seperator filter i could maybe put in the boat too.

The 2.5L was indeed born as a landbased motor, it was popular in the volvo 244,245 and 740 series in the eighties. VP marinised this motor and made a few changes, the block is identical to the 2.3 litre volvo car motor, hence the 'B230' stamp you have found.

The marinised version has a stroke of 86 mm and a forged crank. The car version has a stroke of 80 mm.

Easy peasy to check what version you have.

Does the car motor have a forged crank? If not is that a concern in a boat?

Re: New Volvo Owner (info needed)

Anyone have any idea if i need a fuel regulator, recomended fuel pressure is 2-4 psi and pump puts out 4-7 psi? Or where i should mount that fuel pump? Says not in engine bay. Or if i can even use the car motor? Does it not have a forged crank? That gonna be trouble down the road? thanks

The marinised motor definitely had a forged crank. Some of the car motors also had a forged crank but they were twin cam turbos but the stroke was different.

In the late eighties/early nineties, some of the car cranks also were 86 mm stroke. The bottom line is, Volvo and VolvoPenta shared resources.

I read that the B230 car engine had a cast crank but it was tempered for strength. Anyone on the pump placement? Or if i need a fuel regulator?

Yes, the standard B230 car crank was cast iron nodular in design (tempered), this is a common casting technique for most car cranks.

I don't know about the pump, sorry.

Thanks for the info Duna, they sound like tough little motors though.
