Any ideas here will be greatly appreciated.
While chasing an engine miss at idle, I did a bonehead thing and ran the engine for a few minutes without turning on the water to the muffs. Running again with water showed no water out the exhaust, so I assumed the impeller was toast. I installed a new one this morning and still have no water to the engine with water present at the muffs. The old impeller appears completely intact other than it appears to have gotten pretty warm. No chunks or other pieces missing. The new one is a Sierra 18-3017.
I did use a lttle grease to aid installing the impeller--is that an issue?
I am 99.9% sure the riser tube from the water pump is properly seated.
Outdrive is MC-1 #3392031 without the rib in the ends of the drive bellows. Engine is 250 L6, rebuilt.
(The engine miss turned out to be a loose porcelain insulator in a spark plug--a first. It now idles very well.)
Thanks!
