not sure prob only weights. I've never used them, i'm shallow so that should suffice. And I like simple.
Things have changed here ,we used to troll around the edges of the lake specially round streams and rivers flowing into the lake . Now peeps are using fishfinders to locate trout and then jigging for them down deep.
Lake Hauroko (my closest Lake ) is 462m deep not that anyone jiggs that deep but I have seen a few down riggers on the Lake.
A lot of my local Lakes have at some stage been raised several metres for hydro power production and as a result there is often a lot of trees etc on the Lake floor round the edges and its for this reason I use down/side scan to try and minimise snags and lure loss.
When I was a kid we could use artificial lures and worms and that was about it , now anything goes .If I want to catch a trout ....like made rash promises of a fish dinner to a neighbour I would use a bit of green lip mussel......damn near guarantees a catch ......which sorta spoils it a bit .
Trolling is also a means of getting from a to b, if your not in a hurry may as well save fuel and drag a lure . Just when your thinkin "this has got to be the un-fishiest place " something will often oblige . 😁

other than traditional bass, my lake has walleye and stripers so those will be my targets.

3000 acres, 70 ft at the dam and arerated year round. Lots of skinny water arms my preferred is the main feeder where at full pool there are a couple sections i have to get out and walk the boat so lots of depth and species opportunities.

That sounds real good .
You guys def have a better range of fish ,we have trout ,salmon and perch . There are other fish but not nearly so wide spread . 😁

we did some trolling growing up - just posted a pic elsewhere - but not much really. I can beat the bank for bass, worm for cats and i'll cast for stripers as well as troll.

I've had two fish finders in my life, never learned how to use them, don't want to. Had a thread on that as well. Fishing is a completely different hobby than catching.

I choose to fish.
