Re: Odd oil?

I don.t know what you are reading about a shift button but there were obviously different methods of shifting an electric shift outdrive. All it takes is a switch, whether it be via button or lever. So accept the fact, assume your drive is the same year as your boat and call a knowledgeable vendor to choose the right rebuild/reseal/impeller kit. If you can't find one I can give you a number of someone who can. However the last thing I would want you to do is pump him for information then go buy it from someone else.

If you must persist in ignoring opinions based on the photo you published, try to find shift cables. If you look between the intermediate housing and the upper drive you will see relatively thin wire traversing the distance. NO THICK CABLE.

Boomyal,
I read the electrical shift button located on that link I provided. They stated if you have a switch then your drive is electric. I was not trying to ignore opinions but rather I was looking for a facts that you guys could provide myself. Sorry if my responses came off for you guys all to believe I wasn't listening to you. How many times have I thanked you all then came back asking more questions? Well my point is you are all very knowledable and I apprieciate your time. I'm one to be 100% sure when it comes to trying to figure things out. I do not work on a hunch! :) It is electric and thanks everyone for helping me discover this.

Howard Sterndrive:
Your right it is my boat, but only now is it my boat and it was once someone else's, and before that someone else's so I'm trying to discover what I can about the boat that previous owners may or may not have altered. Not going to assume anything except that the boat is not a original setup which I have been provided that information already. I have had a few boats, mind you, but all were different setups. So I'm doing what I can to learn all that I can, as well as you guys doing all that you can to give me answers to my million questions based on only what I can tell you or show pictures of. "It is Rather difficult I know, and I again apprieciate your time."

Re: Odd oil?

Thanks everyone for all your help. You ever wonder why a deal you can't refuse walks your way at the almost perfect time? Well it today and I regret it almost except my offer was well worth it and I'm happy for new owner as I sold my boat today. I gave new owner a thorough walk through of the boat he paid me in cash and I deliver to him next Monday. No more of my 1972 Searay almost wish I could have splashed it but then I wouldn't be selling it. Think I will find a smaller boat and move over to a Merc maybe! Thanks again everyone I'm still in shock I went through with deal almost don't want to talk about it lol.

I know you all were and so was I. I loved that boat setup if it wernt for a good deal and the fact that I could use cash with Xmas so close by I had to cut my losses!

Good news though I brought home a 19' Searay with a Mercruiser V8, solid boat and owner an I water tested it on lake it was a fantastic ride. Boat is solid despite cosmetics and some wood work needing teak fixed up! And future upholstery redone but its not cracked just faded! Would post photos but its a OMC thread so jump over to Merc side and I will post photos.

Well CH, I wish you good fortune. You think the OMC was a challenge. Wait til you have to get into that Rube Goldberg black anchor with all or its, bellows, cables, gimbals, gimbal bearings, u-joints, alignment requirements, etc, etc. It'll make you pine for the relative simple days of your old OMC.

Re: Odd oil?

Nah I doubt that lol, but at least now I have one that isn't obsolete.

Honestly I didn't care that it was OMC it was all a money factor and the guy who bought mine offered me that right price I couldn't refuse.

Thanks for all your help, too all and hope my lessons learned will help others. Couldn't have done all that I did without the help of you Iboat fanatics like myself!
