Yeah, American arrows are usually straighter.

It can be fixed and that area doesn't get much stress except in this type of situation, so I woiuldn't worry about it failing if it was fixed correctly.

The cost may be high due to the hassle factor of getting to it and then lining it up again.

When it comes to glass, Ondarvr is pretty much "the man," so this is good news.

The cost statement makes sense to me too, just because it looks like the cap is going to have to come off of the boat, in order to fix it properly. Between the time and materials to remove/reinstall the cap, and the cost of labor and material to fix both the hull and the cap, I think your looking a at least a couple of thousand dollars.

Yeh, and that's what got him into trouble in the first place :) EH.

Glad no one was hurt and hope you are back on the water soon.

Re: Official 1st Trip, now need boat bodywork...

2nd estimate $2,500
3rd estimate $10,000!!!! You heard me right...
Called the other boater and gave him the numbers. He was shocked. I have to admit I was shocked too. BTW, all of these estimates are from shops that are not located in marinas... I cant imagine those..

He says "it is not smart to fix a boat when the fix is more than the boat" I said "I agree, I just want to be get back in the water with a similar hull". He said "Im willing to work with you" I said "I hope you do".
He asked me to fax him the estimates anyway and he will be back in town tomorrow. He is going to call me tonight to set up a time to talk about resolution of the problem. This is what I will ask from him (pending a call to the local dump first)

Option 1. Find a hull similar to mine, between 17 and 19 feet, either bow rider or close bow that I can look and make sure is not coming apart. I will take my boat it to a shop that we agree that he will hire to rig the boat. I want to keep my motor, I know it, worked on it and know what I have. Then after the hull has been rigged I will sign him my registration to the hull so they can dispose it.

Option 2. He pays me 1500 + the dumpster fee for dumping the boat. I will take care of the rest.

I know my hull by itself is not worth 1500, but it will probably take me that to find a decent hull. Hulls by itself are hard to find and most of the time they are by itself for a reason (rot to the end). If he is concerned by the money he can do 1, if he just want to get his over with then he can choose 2.

We shall see...

I would want at least 2k from him plus the cost of switching everything to the new hull.
Stick to your guns Nandy. A good used hull may be very hard to find.
You could spend all summer finding a hull and doing the re-power...:(

to me that's gonna be a real problem for you. a non rotted hull w/o an engine... whew. that's a pretty tall order. specially for 2k...
i think that's a problem that us folks that own old boats have. we get them all fixed up, dry as a bone and working as perfect as can be, and they're still only worth pocket change.
of the boats i see that are similar to mine. they are either spent or 4k + or - and up for a respecable one. if you can find one.. yer between a rock and a hard place i think... i've no suggestions other than fix what you have assuming it was a respectable boat.. if you can..

We should have an iboats North Carolina Fiberglass repair clinic . . . Gary can host, Nandy can donate the patient, ondarvr can be technical consultant, and Mr. Big Boat can buy the rest of us plane tix to watch and drink beer.

I will be honest with you, I rather keep my boat... I have been searching and the only hulls I see like mine are running around 1800 and those are the need tlc with a blown motor.... But I only think I can push so far. I he cuts me a check I will probably mend that hole so I dont get water inside and run it until I find the hull I want. The shops that saw it agreed that it was not a damage that will affect the boat performance or handling. Ondarvr seems to be in the same line of thinking and I respect his opinion too. I will check what is the dumpster fee.
Of course, I can push for the 2k and I am sure it will be a long discussion. I dont think Im being unreasonable...

just don't make any decisions quickly. sleep on $ values, or trades or whatever. no matter what, you're getting screwed, so try to limit that as much as possible.

If someone came and offered me $2000 for my boat, which I consider similar to Nandy's, I wouldn't be able to throw them the keys fast enough.

$1500 wil be an easy out bargain for the guy. I know I'd jump at it considering the alternative. I'd seriously do some shopping around BEFORE you make an offer like that. Don't forget that you will have many after the fact costs (including your time) such as:
--re-registration
--possibly travelling to pick up replacement
--rigging
--resetting or replacing trailer
--new survey

Re: Official 1st Trip, now need boat bodywork...

I checked the landfill. They charge by the weight and it will not be more than $100 if I take the worst estimate. I do have to call to make sure they dont have anything special for boats.

If that is still the case I will ask him $1800.00 and wont even mention the landfill as it really dont play much in the overall total. I know I probably should ask for the 2k, but I dont want to get in a pissing contest either. After all is his word against mine and you know that means 50/50 chance to win if I were to go to court to find out who is liable. Then if I win in court then I will have to deal with the insurance to then take him again to court to get whatever I think he owns me after the insurance pay... Which still is 50/50 chance to win... That is too much time and too much running around for me. I rather spend a week rigging a decent hull than fighting in court.
If I had independent witness then I would... I should have waited for the water police... That was my biggest mistake...

I LIKE IT!! Good idea QC...:D

At least when Nandy finds a new hull the guys in this area could all pitch in on a weekend and get him rigged up..
I will donate a day for you Nandy!..;)
Maybe Lowkee and a couple others could join in..
