I'm having this unshakable desire to go do some night fishing tonight... Only problem is, no one to babysit, so the wife can't go... My other fishing buddies work the same shift as me, and I'm on vacation this week and they have to work in the a.m., so, who's makin the trip down/up/over here to go sit on the river bank with me and drink... Err, i mean fish???

yes rbh...yes it does... Although for this vacation, the only plans I had was spending 2-3 days out on the boat fishing and having fun with the family, then taking a day or two too get everything ready around the house for our oldest boy's b-day party....

Bonus of being a teacher. I get 11 weeks off straight. All of my fishing buddies get a break somewhere in there, lol. Wish I was over there. I'd go drink, I mean fish, for sure :D

I KNEW I picked the wrong field of work for a career!! lol This week is what I call a 'porch view' vacation... people say "Where you going on vacation?"... "Porch view" lol. After this week, I go back to work for 3 weeks, then off for another 10 days... packing up the family that week and heading to Gettysburg for a few days. Can't wait for that one, I'm a big history buff when it comes to the Civil War and local history... it's going to be so humbling to stand on those hallowed grounds... Plus, we're staying in a camp ground in a cabin that has a small lake just a couple hundred feet from the porch.. planning on seeing the historical sights during the day, and sitting by the lake in the evenings with a line out in the water.

Oh man, we love Gettysburg! It is so awe inspiring ... Even if you don't like history. We try to make the trip to the battlefield often. You will love it!

I can't wait.. I have been saying for years I've wanted to go but could never quite get things lined up to go. I told my wife that I doubt if her and the two younger ones will be very interested in everything, but our oldest is excited. Just this past school year, he had a choice between like 4 different events/areas to choose from to do a report on... I was so proud/excited when he told me he chose Gettysburg and we sat and did research and I helped with his report. Last Sunday, me, the wife and oldest boy sat and watched the movie "Gettysburg", straight through all 4hrs. 20min. I was really surprised my son watched it all, and even more surprised my wife did also lol.

Another cool thing is, my mom and dad are going also, and my dad is a treasure-trove of information regarding the Civil War. He can actually name every battle location and the names of the Generals that were in charge of said battles. I remember growing up, I would sneak into their room, and in their headboard, he had dozens of books on the Civil War... I used to sit and read them for hours, mom would get upset cause she didn't think that was proper reading material for a 7-9yr old lmao

I was going to recommend that you bone up on your Gettysburg history before going so it will flow and be more understandable. At the visitor's center they have a couple great cd tours of the battlefield that will guide you through the day and you can stop, get out and view the monuments, etc. The Round Tops get me the most, followed by Pickett's Charge.

If you don't want to buy the cd tour, let me know and I can loan you ours.

Thanks man, I really appreciate the offer! Along with watching that movie, which if you've never seen it, you have to watch it... It is LONG, and has some boring parts, but it is probably the most historically accurate movie I've ever seen with regards to the battles of Gettysburg. Anyhow, along with watching that, I make sure anytime there is a show on, say, the Military channel or history channel, about the Civil War, I either watch it, or record it.... or both lol. I'm far from an expert on the battle of Gettysburg, but between the movies/shows, doing a lot of reading on it, and my dad's knowledge we'll be set. I'm excited to watch my dad spend time with his grandkids, especially with the oldest boy cause I know he (dad) is also excited about teaching my son about it all while we're there.

I told my wife that there is two pools at the campground that her and my mom can go lay out at but they have to take the baby lmao
