So the issue happened all of a sudden. I changed points and condenser and then it would not start. I checked coil and it was dead so I replaced it. Still no spark. I also had alternator rebuilt and I found that I hooked the exciter wire to the neg on coil. That's a my bad. Turning engine over for about 20 seconds or so I smelt burnt electrical. Found my starter solenoid was super hot. Changed it and put exciter wire on positive. Still no spark. Help

Check for power at Pos side of coil. If its there, with points open see if ther is power on the Neg side of coil. If both are yes, loosen dizzy and rotate to see if points open and close as the dizzy is turned

Ok then its working
There should be 2 wires on the Pos side of the coil. One supplys full 12V when cranking and the other supplys about 9V once its running. What you just checked was the 9V connection.

Place the meter on the Pos side of coil and see if you get full 12V when cranking. Can even put a jumper from battery to coil to see if it will run, jut don't leave it there

Alright so here goes....there are 3 wires going to solenoid as well as the 12 volt to battery and then one for starter. There was 2 grounds I took off the plate solenoid was supported by. I hooked them back up as before and no keyed ignition. With key on I have 12v both sides of coil. Only way it turns over now is if I hook the ground to the solenoid but that kills the power to coil. If I jump the solenoid it turns over but no coil spark...

Ya got something miss-wired
Here is the Ford wiring I have. Note the dash wire is a resistor wire coming from the purple and choke

This is how it's always been wired. Except for my brief mistake with the exciter

How many wires are connected to your alternator? Mercruiser engines at one time had 1 wire alternators like AD posted.
I think you have a OMC engine that used Prestolite alternators which have a remote mounted regulator. Post a picture of your alternator.

You had me scratching my head for awhile. Yes you do have a Mercruiser harness.
There is either a circuit breaker or a fuse where the #10 red wire is connected to the solenoid on the trim pump.

I'm seeing corrosion, maybe remove the wires off the stud and clean them up shinny

Since you had 12volts going straight to the points and condenser there is a good chance that the spring that closes the points has lost it’s tension by over heating and the condenser is cooked. At this point you should convert to a Petronics electronic conversion.

I have cleaned all connections. Test light shows full at solinoid but weak at ignition terminal....full at choke but weak at coil and there's a section of wire getting hot wich includes the choke wires
