Re: OOPs Crew

so i went christmas shopping over my lunch break
to the walmart up the street..

ended up back in the sporting goods area.
they have bilge pumps, bow and stern lights, fire extinguishers life vests (none for adults though)

and get this...

I got 2 7" pedistals for $5 bucks each and 2 swivles for $3 bucks each.:D

couldnt help myself..

so I got 2 brand new swiveling pedistels for 8 bucks each.. not a bad.. for the 2 free brand new tractor seats sitting in my garage right now.:D
I'll have the only boat on the lake with tractor seats..

maybe the walmart near you guys have such things.. but the one near my house does not:confused:... I was so tickled I had to tell sombody.. ;)

I finally convinced my wife to let me get started on it.. (I secretly think she agreed because she knew if she diddnt I'd start on the boat)

the pictures are not in order I dont know whats up with that.. I have more progress from last night. but I forgot to take pic's I'll take more pic's tonight before tonights work .and after tonights work.. and post tomorrow morning.

I have a sketch of the completed product, but the scanner here wont work and I keep forgetting to scan at home...

Re: OOPs Crew

Hey Guys,

Sounds like the grips of winter have everyone slowed down a bit this year!

I always seem to make some questionable decisions on how and when to do renovations.....I decided one evening in early December (maybe the pale ale influnced my decision a tad) that the cupboards in the kitchen could use a facelift. So, out comes the sander and I go to it with the fury of a thousand tazmanian devils thinking it should only take a couple of days to get the cabinets and door fronts done. Well, my time estimation skills seem to be about as good as Oops's.

I thought that I could use a furniture stripper on the door fronts, but after trying 3 different brands with the same result, I ended up buying a new sander with a finger attachment. So, a "few" cases of beer, a week of sitting in my garage sanding and a ridiculous amount of sandpaper for said finger attachment and I have honey oak cupboards instead of red oak! They do look a heck of a lot better now though! I also put on door hardware and I was quite disturbed when I drilled one one of the doorfronts on the wrong edge.....I did manage to use some glue and sawdust and now "you can hardly notice". Now, thinking of the wobbly-pop consumption during this process, I am actually impressed that I only did that once!

Seeing as how I am also not that bright, I decided to take out the one countertop and put in pot drawers for my wife. She has been wanting these for a while now and it was too cold in December to work on the boat so out comes the old stuff and off to Home Depot for the new! Well, the corner that the new countertop is not a regular size so we decided that we are going to tile it. Now I have to learn how to tile! Anyway, long story short, I am back at work, the countertops are 3/4 plywood for now, the wrong drawer fronts came in so we had to re-order and they won't be in until end of January and I just figured out that the ceramic tile we like is not good for countertops! Doh! Looks like I still have my work cut out for me! Nothing like a good challenge to keep away the winter blues!

Hope you are all having a busy New Year too!

PS: Colobiker, Did you do that DeltaV project?

Cheers!

Re: OOPs Crew

wow.....lots going on all around.....

yar.....i did my own cabinets and counter tops....one of the coolest things i did was to put crown moulding around the top and bottom of the cabinets.....then add lights to the top and bottom.....looks really good.

all the women that saw my kitchen didnt like it......then i added that touch and a tile backsplach and they went nutz over the "new" kitchen.....the cost was really cheap too.....i did that whole thing for under 100 bucks

Re: OOPs Crew

wow, I dont feel so bad then..about foregoing the boat fix now for the bath.

The bath has been a PITA since we moved in. (sept 2000) The bath is on theupper level and has been leaking sparodically to the bar on the lower level.... the leaking has become worse.. after every shower we'd find water on the bar counter.. the wife has been saying.. we need to do it.. I said ok.. I am ready..(I love this stuff).. she kept dragging her feet.. dragging her feet.
so before christmas she said we need to do it.. so I said ok.. I will start right after our christmas party.. she said wait till after christmas..so i said ok.. the 27th.. she said wait till after newyears.. so I said.. ok.. i am starting on monday night jan 5th.. you better have your stuff out..

for the remodel I am taking it all the way down to the studs and the floor joists.. it had a sunken tub, then sombody remodeled and took it out to the configuration when we bought. they never fixed the floor right. its always been flexing and have cracked tiles and grout popping out...
I diddnt work on it last night.. but tonight I will hit it again. by sunday night I hope to be down to floor joists and studs (already down to studs (sorry no pics yet)

next week I am out of town monday thru wednesday. so no progress those days

i did the kitchen 2 years ago.. same sad shape.. now its awsome. put in a tile floor, tile backsplash, new counter tops, new fridge, re did the cabinets.. (sanded like yar) new range top. gas on glass. very very pretty. all told the remodel with appliences for the kitchen cost me less than 5K.. I did every bit of it myself.. I even built a new cabinet to hold the TV and micro, new range hood. i wired up lights under the upper cabinets.and lights for the lower cabinets. I put in switches hidden in the back of the cabinets.. so you cant see them.. above the sink I added glass to the doors and lights and mirrors.. so it shows of the wine glasses and crystal very nicely.

Yar, Still working on the delta V Project. The project schedule has changed so my programming side got pushed out a bit (early summer).. I am in Delta V training on the 26th thru 31st.

Re: OOPs Crew

Wow Colobiker, you have a lot of work to do on that bathroom! Just thought I would remind you:p

From the pics, it looks like the previous owners really did a real crappy job. I am sure that you will get it all purty and done right! Leaking onto the bar? Have you ever wondered why your beer was always full but never making you wobbly::D

I already have crown molding on the tops, but I am now thinking about adding the crown and lights under and I like the idea of the switches in the cabinets (a hybrid oops and colobiker idea). I think that would look good and be functional for better visibility while trying to not chop off a finger.
I already replaced the appliances 2 years ago so that was ok, but have added a new range hood (the spaceship! It has 2 50W halogen landing lights on it!) and updated the light fixtures. So, when I get done with the counters and paint it should look great and that will buy me some boat time!

Colobiker, Being in Austin at the end of January won't be so bad! A little break from the snow! Ever been to PappaDeaux Seafood Kitchen? Yum!

Re: OOPs Crew

yar...

yup.. the Previous owners diddtn do me any favors.. but its ok..
thats what I get for buying a house that was a rental for 7 years.. and when its done.. it will be nice.. the wife is already talking about the other 2 bathrooms.. and then the Bar.. UGGG..

the lights I added.. under cabinets and at floor level.. in the kitchen are awsome. and the hidden switches gives me a chuckle.. I was working on the kitchen one day.. and remembered these switches that a supplier had sampled me.. so when I got to work the next day, I checkd out the ratings..
damn if they werent perfect... then I told my wife what I wanted to so.. she was ok.. great.. .. I said even down on the floor.. she said no.. it will show if I have dirt.. (I was thinking on the floor cause I had just completed a new white/grey tile floor and it looked stunning.).. note to self.. never ever ever install white tile and grout on the floor.. especially in the kitchen.. (looks awsome when clean.. but a pita to keep that way..

my wife loves to throw parties.. she calls the lights moo lighting (Mood Lighting) speaking of which.. I just installed some remote lights (Cheap X10 knock off types) for her in the living room.. now she can light up the whole living room by flicking 3 switches.. I told her when those croak we will go all out on the home automation...

I wont be going to Austin,:( the local rep here (applied Control equipment) is hosting it.). so i get to stay home and work at night on the bathroom.:(

Re: OOPs Crew

i did my bathroom floor with tile.....(actually marble) ......bit under it.....i put a heated floor !

it was really easy to do....its just a wire that runs under the tile......then use thinset to bring the floor level up to the level of the wire and tile as nessary.

the heat was controlled by a time control......that was one of the things that helped sell my house......total cost.....bout $400.....

oh.....i forgot......i saved most of the 400 dollars by using a 8 foot closet door mirror for the main bathroom mirror.....instrad of buying a new expencive mirror....i went to a salvage shop....bought a mirrored closet door for 30 bucks....(they broke the other half of the two door sliding system).....stripped the frame off and glued the thing to the wall.......worked perfect !

Man I do not envy whoever has to go through that thread when the project is completed :)

Well as someone that just spent three days of my life reading every post, it was more enjoyable because of the banter, everyone is a person now in my head with their own quirks and such!
