Just an up-date...

We put the boat in the water yesterday
1) Kicker (9.9 johnson) ran fine, bracket adjusts good also, and we trolled using the kicker. Oh, kicker moves SS at 6 kts WOT
2) boat centered excellant on the trailer so adding the upright guide poles and adjusting the rear rollers paid off beautifully
3) transom never leaked inside the splashwell and was plenty strong enough with the extra weight of the kicker..yaaa!!
4) Anti-slip strips on top of trailer fender...works awesome
5) Spare prop for main engine 60 hp Yammie performed flawlessly
6) Downrigger repairs/mounts also worked great
7) New fuel line held prime
8) Smiles all day long!!

Congrats on the great trip. What type of fish are they? I've never seen anything like them down here in Florida.

Hi Kfa4303, thanks, the large brown fish is called a lingcod and can grow up to 40 lbs plus and 5 ft long. The bright orange fish is a Yellow eye Rock cod and are a long lived species like 60-80 years old...they are also called Red Snapper

The weather here in British Columbia has finally turned into summer and temps have hit 30 degrees Celius...wow hot for us Canadians on Vancouver Island.

We taken some friends out boating and they caught some nice cod. The weather was flat calm and sunny. My bud's fiancee had not been on the water since her Dad had taken her out and it brought back memories as her Dad has passed on, but she enjoyed herself nonetheless. We celebrated my Buddy's B'Day recently and I promised to take him out fish'n and we all had a blast.

These are the memories that our Starcraft has already allowed us to make this year.

On a sad note, I received word that another fellow camper that I met 5 summers ago has passed away this weekend. I met 5 guys camping on a lake up Island 5 years ago and 4 of those friends have died in the last 2 years.

I have been going visiting these guys every summer since back at the lake...

Seems like our lives are filled full up with friends and family, but we lose some of them along the way. Yeah, I know that we make more friends through our travels in life...but it still... it does...upset me.

Going to go visit with my bud as he is the last one left from that gang and I know he is hurtin'

Sorry to hear the gang is disbanding. Hopefully they can still keep a long distance eye on ya fishing from the SC in their honor.

Well, lots of water under the ...keel since my last posting and I'm feeling much better. Looking forward to taking my son out on the boat within the next couple of days. As he is now into his 20s, it is harder to get him out, and he wasn't too keen on the old 14 fter tincan we used to fish in. But the 16' SS is more appealing to him, so hopefully the weather is good and fishing produces some memories too.

Epic Boating/Camping Trip Up Island

My Gal and I planned a trip together that had surprising turn of events. We took our SS to the Big waters of the Westcoast of Vancouver Island...in other words there was no land mass between us and Japan!!

We drove 3 hrs up island on the highway and another 3 hours on the logging roads to get to our camping spot. Ok it should have taken only 1/2 hour to get to the campsite, but we get turned around several times on a wrongly marked road and found our way to... the wrong town? Backtracked to logging road and tried again. Success was rewarded with a beautiful camping spot on the beach, which we were able to launch the SS from the beach, too cool!!

We took off to explore the inlet/fjord the 1st night and discovered that crabs traps were everywhere, but we did not bring our traps. However, a nice fellow boater shared some dungeness crab with us and they tasted Delicious.

The second day I was chomping at the bit to get out fishing, but I let my gal sleep in. I made her tea and breakfast after she got up. Prepared the boat for our long trip to the westcoast of the island and got the fishing gear set-up too. Yup, I was spoiling her!!

Our trip out the inlet was 35 miles and took just over an hour, last time I had seen this part of the coast was 20 years or more ago. We went through Quatsino Narrows that flow like a strong river during both the peak flood and ebb tides, it was awesome to experience that.

We trolled for salmon for a couple of hours, but no other boats were catching anything and neither were we No matter the weather was good with a low southerly ground swell about, 6 seconds a part, and a NW chop on top of the ground swell.

Next, we moved a bit more into open waters to try jigging for bottom fish like lings and halibut. My gal started to feel the effects of the waves, so I returned to a more calmer area. In while she felt better, and we jigged up some cod. As it was time to head back, I shut off the outboard and started telling her how much she meant to me and dropped to one knee and pulled out shiny ring. Mustered up the courage and asked her to marry me... she said just a minute..........grabbed the camera took photo of me on bended knee and said Yes!!

So my Gal is now My Fiance
