Re: Pelosi One

Personally, I think this is a non-story. The range request seems legitimate to me and she did not pursue this from the beginning. Makes us (conservatives) look bad, there are plenty more deserving fish to be fried.

Re: Pelosi One

Her contention is that for security reasons she wants non-stop travel from Washington to San Francisco.... what?, she thinks security on an Air Force base to re-fuel isn't good enough?

Maybe she is right, what with the way she supports our troops. :p

Re: Pelosi One

I think non-stop is exactly what I would want. Come on. Forget who she is and think for a minute. The US Gov't goes to her and says, "now that you're speaker, we'd like to provide your transportation for security". Nancy "Cool, I'd like to go non-stop if possible". OK, " If the right plane is available, done deal". End of story. Our representative Gov't requires our representatives to be in Wash and their home state. It is a long way for weekends. Again, bigger fish to fry, and I think this one isn't even a keeper.

Re: Pelosi One

Here is what Queen P demands:

C-32A-DVD-1106-4_375x300.jpg

Boeing built four 757-200 aircraft, designated C-32A, to replace the Air Force's aging fleet of VC-137 executive transports. The C-32As carry the U.S. vice president, members of the U.S. cabinet and Congress, and other government officials traveling on government business. The first two C-32s entered operational service in 1998, the final two in early 1999. The fleet is based at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland and is operated by the 89th Airlift Wing.

Denny Hastert flew in this:

The various versions of the C-20 are military modifications of the commercial Gulfstream aircraft. The C-20 aircraft provide distinguished visitor (DV) airlift for military and government officials. They support the long range/low passenger load DV airlift niche, offering worldwide access while including a communications suite which supports worldwide secure voice and data communications for the DV and staff.

QC... The Air Force only has four C-32's. But it doesn't matter anyway.

Pentagon limits Pelosi jet size

By Charles Hurt and Rowan Scarborough
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
February 8, 2007

The Department of Defense yesterday sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that puts limits on the size of the plane she may use to travel across the country and restricts the guests she can bring, The Washington Times has learned.
A congressional source who read the letter signed by Assistant Secretary of Defense Robert Wilkie said it essentially limits her to the commuter plane used by former Speaker J. Dennis Hastert, which requires refueling to travel from Washington to Mrs. Pelosi's San Francisco district. A second source, in the Bush administration, confirmed the contents of the letter.

Hmmmm..... the range on that C-20B is 4250 miles.... C-20H is 4850.

How far is it from DC to SF?

Crunchy, in theory, a possible strong headwind would make them have to refuel somewhere.

But regardless, why is she worried? I thought the security threat was way over hyped by the Evil George Bush? For that matter, why doesn't she fly commercial. The threat does not exist right? We have not been attacked in over 5 years, right? It's just the same old "politics of fear" right? (rolling eyes)

Re: Pelosi One

I don't believe her camp made a specific plane request. What I am reading was that the C40 (737-700) is the recommended plane by the military . . . Obviously there are some contradictions floating about, and the range discrepancies bugged me too, although there is some headwind issues being thrown about. If what her camp says is the truth, and I have no reason to dispute that, then non-story. If she is demanding a larger plane than necessary for the job, all of the time, then my opinion changes.

LA Times version

Yes, this is in conflict with the other stories. Again, if the issue is only range, I think it is a non-story. If it is something else, then I think something else . . .

Re: Pelosi One

QC, I'm inclined to think the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Based on her extravagant "crowning" that went on for days, I don't hesitate for one minute to believe that her staff made the request.

If only the Left were as forgiving, as they demonize everything and anything the Right does as if there is always an ulterior motive.

White House defends Pelosi access to Air Force transport plane

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House on Thursday defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi against Republican criticism that her desire to fly in an Air Force transport plane is an extravagance.

"This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.

Some Republicans are taking issue with the size of the plane Pelosi has requested. Pelosi, a Democrat, asked for access to a C-32, a military version of the Boeing 757-200, that could fly to her hometown of San Francisco without refueling.

"It's not a question of size, it's a question of distance," Pelosi said Wednesday. "We want an aircraft that can reach California."

The Pentagon this week informed Pelosi's staff that she would be provided with a plane but that its size would be based on availability and that it could not guarantee nonstop service.

Kagee,

I hear you, and I was ready to jump on the bandwagon, but I do not want to stoop. I frankly care nothing about the other side's tactics, except that it clarifies who they are. I want my party to stand higher and act appropriately. When they don't, I am gonna call them on it. *** for tat does not interest me although I could always go for a little of the reverse . . . what's a tat?

I found this interesting.... what's that old saying about a woman scorned?

Murtha said he is convinced the Pentagon has been leaking information about the possibility that Pelosi would use large military planes to make her look bad. But he said, "They're making a mistake when they leak it because she decides on allocations for them,'' referring to the Pentagon budget.

I think Blu Lunch just figured out the best deal yet. Have Bush Chauffeur her in a fighter. What better show of Bipartisanship could there be? They could even practice a refueling deal if they had to. Don't dismiss it, could be good for both of 'em. The only problem I can come up with is Nancy's hair . . .

Just hammer the helmet on her, slam the visor shut, but don't pull the pin on her ejection seat. :p
