Hmmmm..... the range on that C-20B is 4250 miles.... C-20H is 4850.

How far is it from DC to SF?

Crunchy, in theory, a possible strong headwind would make them have to refuel somewhere.

But regardless, why is she worried? I thought the security threat was way over hyped by the Evil George Bush? For that matter, why doesn't she fly commercial. The threat does not exist right? We have not been attacked in over 5 years, right? It's just the same old "politics of fear" right? (rolling eyes)

I could really care less about lil nancy's plane, but I am understanding you that at head wind can cut fuel consumption in almost half?
How much of a head wind would be needed for that?

Half of the plane's forward air speed.... of course the fact that any pilot that flew right into the face of the Jet stream would be busted down to "runway sweeper" upon landing has nothing to do with this. :p

NBC News and news services
Updated: 3:50 p.m. PT Feb 8, 2007
WASHINGTON - The Air Force transport plane decried by Republicans as an extravagance for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was requested by the House sergeant-at-arms as a matter of security, he said Thursday.

“I regret that an issue that is exclusively considered and decided in a security context has evolved into a political issue,” Bill Livingood said in a news release. He said because Pelosi lives in California he was compelled “to request an aircraft that is capable of making non-stop flights for security purposes, unless such an aircraft is unavailable. This will ensure communications capabilities and also enhance security.”

Republicans had taken issue with the size of the plane Pelosi would need to fly in to reach her hometown of San Francisco without refueling. There are three Air Force airplanes that have the fuel capacity to make the trip nonstop, with the largest being a C-32 plane, a military version of the Boeing 757-200.

Someone help me, if President Bush, and Vice President Cheney are somehow killed why exactly would it need a special plane, she would use AF1? The rest is just an inconvenience. One I bet everyone wished they had.

Isn't that what the dems do? Cut miltary spending, cut the troop levels, then blame the republicans when the sh!t hit's the fan.

But lil nancy needs her plane to fly non-stop for HER security? What about ours?

Art, Nancy made it plane (pun intended) that she wanted an airplane big enough to ferry her family, staff, and political supporters coast to coast... the Pentagon limited her to 10 seats and any family or "friends" would have to pay "coach fares"... the House sergeant-at-arms late breaking ploy is just that, a ploy... just like she said she would go "domestic"... another "poor me" ploy.

She is just as much a Chameleon as Hill.

Re: Pelosi One

Getting a solid answer out of a liberal is impossible. The plane has double the needed range, but we worry about headwinds? Someone help me, why would anyone need to fly to California if the Prez and VP are dead?

Liberals never decry wasteful spending, it is their bread and butter. Let the whinning begin.

Duhbya is a dummy, you've said it many times yourself... ever think he is trying to smooth waters that were ruffled by Nancy?

So who is the dummy?... ask Murtha that. Oh, that woman scorned :p

Haut, it is all about position... Nancy screwed the pooch and "W" is being BIG about it.... Nancy countered by going Domestic... she will settle to the status quo.

After 5 helicopters have been shot down in the last few weeks in Iraq, with almost 50 Americans killed aboard, I'd think there are more important aircraft to worry about.

And these people think they deserve to regain power?

You're kidding, right?
