I was talking to my brother-in law and he was say why am I sand in between coats ??? He say just paint her then sand her !!!!!!! man why didn't he tell me that two weeks AGO !! LOL

So tomorrow clean her again and then paint with what I have left , then Tues hit her again when I get the other can !!!

Man I was out there hitting the starboard side , and its turned to glass , if I couldn't still see some of the egg shell color in it I would leave it !!! it really is turning out like a mirror !!!! John

Y'know, they make an additive called "flotrol" that is supposed to help paints level and flow better...I would think that a product like Flotrol would help with Rustoleum.

Floetrol is for acrylic / latex paints, not oil based. Penetrol is for oil-based paints, but the correct thinner may do just as good a job in a boat application.

Thanks for the correction VT...I knew there was a product for each, but Floetrol was the only one that was coming to mind. USE THE RIGHT PRODUCT GUYS!

This goes to the point of READING LABELS before you buy/use any product.

Hi all

Well rust-oleum calls for mineral spirits , so were good there guys !! LOL thanks for looking out there Mike !!!I do think it say you can use something else thoe !!

Well The weather here stinks , Its raining !!! so I couldn't help my self , I went and hand sanded the hole thing !!even my brother-in law said I didn't have too , but I just figured just that much less at the end !! I just hit all the high spot on the hole thing !! then shop vac, the hole garage , and washed her down twice !!!

So the rain is going to stop tomorrow moring , so I can wash her down tomorrow again after I sleep in !!! LOL supposed to clear out before noon , so I can pick up the paint and come back and get the first coat then 4 hours later hit her again for another coat and see how that looks !!

Then wed Jeff said he'll be over to sand , so maybe wed night RED !!!LOL

Ohh yea Steve still got your candy [ Lucky I don't like peanuts ] lol still got it sitting here , when you getting ready to glass ?????? John

Re: pic of work so far

I got a question for you John ( anyone )..did you use Tyvek suits for grinding, and how many did you use for the nasty part? The reason I ask is that I'm looking into buying some, and I can get a case of 25 hooded with booties for $3/per suit...$75 for the case. For some reason I don't think I'm going to need that many, but I figured I could recoup some of the cost by reselling the rest at a discounted price to someone else in the same size that would need them.

As soon as I get those suits, it's CRAZY TIME with the Grinder

With all of the grinding I did on my 14 foot Glastron I used just one suit. Before the winter came I was about 90% done with all the needed grinding.

I got 5 suits at $7 a pop for $35 plus shipping from here

God only knows. I'm 6ft 210lbs, so I'm figuring an XL. I might just end up buying one locally for fit. But, that's why I'm asking. I'd hate to buy a box of them and they are all too tight to bend over in!

I only used one suit aswell.. Home cheepo brand like join.. a hood is a good idea! spray yourself with an air compressor before removing the suit and repair with duct tape as needed.

mike, I dont think you will need anywhere near 25.

Guys if I had to do it all again I would deffinately get the full suit w/ respirator. This was my first experience w/ glass, grinding and sanding on a scale like that. LOL

Never again without proper attire, if you read about what those chems do to the body you would freak out, even though it takes a major toll on lungs, it also goes right to the testies, I do not have any kids yet, but theres no saying I dont want any later in life, but more than that i like having the choice.

Hi all

Ok well Third coat is on !! And she is going to get one more !! Its been on for about 2 hour's now , I am going to see if I can get one more before I go to bed !! While I was looking at the pdf from rust-oleum , it said 24 hours between coats !! but I am going to check On her about ten and see if I cant get one more on her tonight , so me and jeff can hit the sanding where I got to tape , and get some red going then sand the hole thing !!

What do you guys think ?? think i can get one more tonight ?? it would be like 8 hours dry time , and rust-oleum says 6 to 8 hours you can sand !!!

Yea I hear yea mike , low here tonight 38 !!! My father in law was still getting snow this last weekend !!! Think he's about the same longatitude as you,but he's right on lake superior, so he really get the lake effect!!

I didnt try the suit yet I will !! I think I have heard that most guys go threw one and tapeing here when needed !! LOL Ok I will be back !! John

John I remember one time about 2 or 3 years ago a local construcion company wanted one of there dump trucks painted "cheep" 3 hrs and 2 qts of red rustolium later we were driving it back to there shop :D and we put two coats on. It actualy still looked fairly good last summer, so i would think 8 hrs of dry time would be ok

Man I hope my 2nd (&3rd??) coats of Rusto look as good..
I only have 1 down so far on my tin can....

I'd guess if you dont have too much humidity or dampness in the air painting tonight is cool...

Fantastic job John!
