Not a bad idea Fury,

Lol, makes me think of Bugs Bunny when he came up with the portable hole thing hahaha.
In this case he had a rolled up black circle which he placed on the ground and then stepped in it and dissapeared.

You could do that for the transom plugs with a can of holeaway!, just aim, spray over the hole and its done!

I know...I have too much time on my hands, dang layoff!

It would be a nice little side business if you have some left over Epoxy and time! Sell a set of them for $6 plus shipping and make a tidy profit.

Ok here it is the front bow is the frist one , you can see it looks petty good if i do say so !! lol

Ok the next pic is the port side front bow shot , you can see the start of the step, and where that seam is where they meet , it was all little lumps and I meam little bumps, its all smooth now !!

The next is the center keel , there was no gel coat in the one spot , there is one coat of marine tex on it now ,and its going to get one more good coat of marine tex!! Now that its all virgin gel coat !! In a couple pics you can see all the dust still on the hull !!

This next pic is penny out there helping take pics !!!

And this last pic is toward the back , keel .
You cant really tell but , on all the steps on the wings, they are all kind of cupped out,I hit them really easy thats why its taking so long, and i allways tried to grind the way the water would be comming off the hull !! Do you guys get what i mean ??? I was thinking I got to have just 23 hours sanding the hull , and the top has to have that !! so that is 46 hours so far , I will bet that I will have 60 plus hours in just sanding !! But she will look petty darn good when i am done , for a new 33 year old boat !! John

Where all the corners or seams as i called them before . i got all the lumps out of them , I got to have gained some speed off of how smooth she is now , I cant wait to get her out and see how much really !! I was thinking at least a couple of knots !!!!! John

Ok Guys and Gals

I got home about 3;30 and go the heat going out there, its 70 in there now , and its 26 outside!!! I am going to get it about 80 in there , that should get every thing nice and warm , I got to keep it above 50 all night !!!! Tats the lowest cure rate for Marine-tex!! Its going to 20 out side tonight ,[ watching the news as i do this ]

I have already wiped her down 3 times with about half a roll of damp paper towels !!

As soon as it get warm enough out there. I am going to wipe it down with acetone. dont want to be doing that with the heater going !!! lol

Ok its 74 in there now !! heater has been going for just over Hour !!

Going to get a good part of her marine terxed ,and still got the transom to finish sanding and epoxied, and also have to sand that spot on the port side !! [ man they just said 2 to 4 inch's of snow tomorrow night !! I am really ready for spring ]

I figure I can grind tomorrow while the marine tex cures it takes 24 hours , at 72 !!!

So I am going to leave the lights going , [ 3 - 500 watt haligen lights ] it keep the garage in the high 60's last week , I got to keep the core of the boat warm for the next couple of days !! [ this is my friday again ]

HI All

Well got the dash board, got the holes plugged and covered with marine tex !!! It is going to take some sanding to make that shape on the dash !!

also got the other side and top part of the helm and the port side console and got a really good coat on the transom part of the splash well ,where i ground it down to the glass !!!

worked and got a lot of the top part of the bow !!

Ohh and got the two parts where the diamond plate sits in the back, there was a wave in the in the one side i didnt like , I know the diamond plate covers it but its gone now !!!!!
along with a lot of spiders that i cleaned out and filled!!!!


Did about 3 hours out there,and It got too 65 out there in the garage in about 4 hours , when i turned off the heat it was 84 !! so I turned the heat on for the last half of a hour !! and got it back up to about 80, and i only really need 4 to 5 hours to where it sets up , but for it to fully cure it needs 24 hours at 72 !!

So at before i go to bed I am going to trun it on onces more and when i get up at 6:30 turn it on again !!

I also am going to leave the two light on !! yep two , one blew not ten mins after i got out there !!

And then tomorrow , hit the bottom with the marine tex and also the hole in the transom with the epoxy , and then finish grinding that spot on the port side !! Then i might test a spot tomorrow afternoon and see if i cant start sanding again !!! John

Great work! Its been a while since I've been to iboats due to the weather out. It is great so see someone is working on a boat in this cold Michigan weather.

HAy Darren , how you doing ?? yea this weather stinks !! But i am going to get her done , I want a boat this spring not like last year where i didnt have her ready to use till Aug, !! OK man glad to see yea !!


Ok in the garage it was 54 out there , with just the two lights going all night !! I got the heat cracking up out there for the last half of a hour and its back up to 75 !!!

I touched a few spots of the marine tex and there hard !!

Ok the hope here is to get her all marine texed today and start sanding get the transom epoxied , and then I am hoping sanding gets done next week !!!!!!

Ok time to get at her !! John

Ok all taking a break !! Man ohhh man , still marine texing !! lol fixing holes still , man they are a pain !! IT was 64 out there!! Where i really applied the marine tex there hard as a rock,but where I put it too just take a wave out [ a real thin lay ] it is still tacky !! so got the heat going again , on the port side there are a couple spots that i hit , I got to get them to cure !! the kids are allways running out to that fridge !!

On the can of marine tex it does say that a thin set takes longer to cure !!


So there is a couple more spot i am going to tex and then call it a day out there , got to get it all dry , keep touching spots that arent dry !! @^#%^%%##^ John

Hay Guys and Gals !!

Well today is another day !! and got up to both of my halogen bulbs blow en !! it was still high 50 out there so it couldn't have been that long ago that they went !! I cranked up the heat , and felt a few of the spot that i hit with the tex, and galdarn it there was one or two still tackie !! @#$##%$$%%%$%

Well any way went to home cheapos and got 4 more bulbs and had to get new filters for my mask !! and some air filters for the furnace !!

SO anyway, got the heat going out there , all ready changed the bulbs !!

Man then holes that all the snaps went it , i really hate them , lol the ones i patched yesterday , some of them sank , and some of the bubbled up !! where i really slapped some tex on there ok , but i will bet 5 out of the 30 that i filled i have to fix !! and I seen a few that i missed totally !! well its getting there !! time it get at her !! John

Hey John, been reading this thread all the way through. Thanks for posting it. It is SOO Informative! I can't wait to get back from florida and get into mine. Be home late tomorrow night. Hoping to throw some time at her this weekend.

OK all , well I didnt get done marine texing , I did get the holes drilled bigger, 3/8 bolt goes threw so i drilled them out 7/8 and filled then with epoxy, all of the turned out really well, except one and i can just fill that one with marine tex , it is allmost all the way full !! I will get some pics up later !!

I couldnt wait , I got started grinding the dash , its really turned out well , i have to go back over with the tex again in a couple spots but I am pleased so far , and also got going on the transom , it also is turning out petty nice !! there again one more coat of tex and it should be good !! john
